Neck Liposuction: Before and After Photos

    Tag Archives: Alpharetta

Liposuction is one of the simplest ways to improve the appearance of the jawline and neck and in most cases it can be safely performed under local anesthesia.  The key to neck & chin liposuction is patient selection.  The procedure is perfect for men & women with excess fat in the neck and a blunted jawline.  In these patients I use very small liposuction cannulas to remove fat from the neck and chin area to improve the neck contour & the appearance of the jaw.  If a patient has a significant amount of excess skin, especially loose or droopy neck skin, then neck liposuction should be combined with a full neck lift or facelift.

As you can see neck liposuction results in a dramatically improved jawline for the patient e giving a younger, slimmer look to the face and gives a boost of confidence to the patient!

Large, sagging breasts can be the cause of serious back and shoulder pain for many women. Aside from the physical aspects, women can also feel lower self esteem and confidence due to the over-sized or drooping breasts. Breast reduction involves reducing the amount of breast tissue and is usually combined with a lift to reduce any excess skin and sagging that is associated with larger breasts. During the procedure the nipples are relocated to a higher more desirable position and the areolar size is reduced if needed. There are different incisions that may be used during a breast lift procedure that are chosen after consultation with the surgeon. You can see Dr McCluskey explains the differences between these incisions here!

As you can see the results of a breast reduction are a youthful, lifted appearance. The reduction in size and weight provides relief for back pain and also creates a boost in confidence in many of our patients!

Breast augmentation is a great way for patients to enhance the female figure and in many cases improve self esteem. This young transgender patient had undergone silicone injections into her breast tissue in the past. Following consultation with Dr McCluskey, the patient chose to undergo a breast augmentation with 550cc silicone breast implants while having Dr McCluskey simultaneously remove any of the old injected silicone and scar tissue. When silicone is injected it is extremely difficult to remove and only a limited amount can be removed with out causing safety risks for the patient. The patient selected a periareolar incision, meaning the incision line is around the nipple. Please watch and leave any comments or questions you may have!

This patient had lost volume in her breasts due to aging and pregnancy. Although this would usually be thought of as a case suited to a breast lift, due to there being a low amount of sag in this patients breast we were able to achieve the results she desired with a simple breast augmentation. Breast implants added volume and shape restoring a youthful and lifted appearance to the breasts with near invisible scarring and quick recovery with limited down time for this mom on the go!

At the Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta we are lucky to have amazing patients! Here are some kind words from one of them:IMG_1667

“I had two Rhinoplasty’s done in the past by two different doctors In Florida. Both of which were incorrectly done and the results affected me monetarily and emotionally. After 5 years of being miserable and still unhappy, I heard of Paul by one of his previous patients that I met in a local Atlanta bar. I was amazed at the before and after results on my friend. I then decided to take another chance at it, so in May of 2013 I put my trust in this Doctor and had my 3rd Rhinoplasty. Today I am happy with my results. Finally, I am smiling and feel happier than I have been in a very long time. So that’s my story. I wish he would have been my first Doctor that did my procedure. I would have saved so much money. Regardless, When hiring a Plastic Surgeon, Beware.. In my book, Paul Mccluskey and his staff are the BEST!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!! :)”

This Week’s Move: The Tricep Dip

A common complaint that many patients have is that they are unhappy with the size or appearance of their upper arms. The tricep dip, and other moves that exercise the tricep muscle (as seen in the picture) will specifically tone the backs of the arms increasing strength and creating slimmer, leaner looking upper arms.

This move is incredibly simple and is open to many variations to further test yourself and increase endurance. For example the legs can be bent with feet plants on the ground, straight with heels digging in to the ground, or crossed with one heel digging in to the ground. The key thing to remember with the tricep dip is that it’s just that- a work out for the upper arm, so moving the hips up and down to touch the floor will not exercise the arm. The key is to bend the elbow and then snap back in to a straight arm position, even if this means a small bend in the elbow at first as you improve you will be able to achieve a lower ‘dip’.

To perform a tricep dip follow the steps below and use Dr McCluskey’s pictures as a reference! This move can be performed using a step or low bench or simply on the floor:

    1. Lean back and place hands directly under shoulders with fingers facing forward.

    photo 1

    2.  With legs either straight out to the front, bent, or crossed, lift your butt off the floor and shift your weight back so that more pressure is on your arms than legs.

    3. Simply bend the elbows lowering your upper body slowly without letting your bum touch the floor.

    4. Then push back to a straight arm position to complete the dip!

Perform this action twenty times for three sets each day for the next week and see if you can notice an improvement. Changing leg position or using a step to allow a bigger dip will increase the challenge! Controlled and stable movements will help to produce the best results, and don’t forget to check in with us and let us know what you think of this exercise!

These two very popular procedures have earned themselves fans all over the world and for a good reason! A Tummy Tuck gives a slim, youthful waist that can be so hard to achieve for many especially following pregnancy. A Brazilian Butt Lift adds curves in all the right places while taking away fat from trouble areas. It’s understandable then, that many patients come in wanting to combine the two procedures and achieve hour glass curves in one day ofsurgery, but is it a good idea?

Liposuction Surgery Atlanta | Lipo Plastic Surgery | Cosmetic Surgeon

The short answer is: No. While these two procedures together can help to completely transform a woman’s body the recovery for one would inhibit the recovery of the other. Following a Brazilian Butt Lift patients are warned not to sit or lay on their rear for a period of time, which would mean laying on the stomach or standing for long periods of time – two things that would be extremely uncomfortable following a Tummy Tuck.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       tummytuckbrowning

Not only this but the results will be significantly better if a recovery time is left between them. Dr McCluskey recommends first undergoing the Brazilian Butt Lift and then, after a 6-8 week period, the Tummy Tuck. For two very simple reasons. The first being that it would make no sense to undergo a tummy tuck, then follow with liposuction shortly after, this would mean the best result would not be achieved. Secondly, following the liposuction involved in a Brazilian Butt Lift and the recovery/reduction in swelling in the weeks following, more loose skin will be available to create the most flat, tapered and natural result possible.

It’s no secret that there are plenty of negative side effects associated with smoking. Along side the obvious health risks that you are taking when you choose to smoke, the signs of your bad habit will be all over your skin too. ‘Smokers face’ is a term that has long been used to describe the older and greying skin that many long term smoker possess thanks to chemicals that starve the skin of oxygen and stop the ‘glow’. Here are some of the ways that smoking damages your skin:

    Wrinkles

Both the blood supply and skin cells are damaged by chemicals in cigarette smoke which leads to drier and more wrinkle prone skin. Carbon monoxide strips the oxygen from the blood that is vital in keeping skin supple and healthy, while free radicals cause cell changes that contribute to wrinkles. On top of the chemical causes of wrinkles, the constant sucking action lead to those tell-tale wrinkles around the mouth.

    Scarring

Nicotine causes vasoconstriction (or narrowing of the veins) which means less blood supply can get to wounds in the healing process. Not only can this be an issue from a surgical standpoint but it also leads to scars that are darker, larger and take longer to heal than they would be in non-smokers.

    Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an auto-immune skin condition that effects many people, smokers and non-smokers alike, causing skin redness, irritation and scaly, flaky skin. Even though people who have never touched a cigarette suffer from this condition, those who smoke have a 60% higher chance of developing psoriasis than their non-smoking counterparts.

    Skin Cancer

Excessive sun light exposure is the dominant factor behind skin cancer cases world wide, but studies show that smoking also increases your risk of developing this type of cancer as well as numerous others such as oral and lung cancer.

Avoiding smoking is beneficial in many different ways from the superficial to long term health and reduces many risks associated with surgery.

We all know that there are many, many reasons to stop smoking: the health complications are extensive and the effect on you appearance alone are hugely significant. Smoking also adds a significantly higher risk of complications when it comes to surgery. As a rule I don’t operate on smokers. I try to work with patients that do smoke to set parameters for their safety or to help them to stop smoking completely (if they are interested). If you are a chronic smoker then during your consultation I will explain the risks of smoking with regard to plastic surgery and I’ll ask you to stop smoking one month prior to surgery and one month afterward.  It might sound like a big challenge, but I’m asking you to cease smoking for a period of one month.

    Unknown-3

Even if you follow these instructions to the letter and quit smoking one month before and one month after surgery you are still at risk for many of the complications typical for smokers, naturally it’s always preferable that patients stop smoking completely. One of the many reasons smoking is problematic in regards to surgery is that chemicals found in cigarettes cause blood to clot less easily which can be extremely problematic, . If you are a smoker any issues or questions you may have will be discussed in detail at your consultation so that you can be fully educated and prepared before scheduling surgery.

1AE064B9-9867-4010-8A8DBA05E8652A5BWaking up after being under anesthesia can be a confusing experience for many people, it’s not unusual for many of our patients to be experiencing the effects of anesthesia for the first time so what should you know before going in to surgery?

You Will Probably Wake Up Feeling Thirsty

It is very common for one of the first questions when patients wake up to be “can I have some water?” Following surgery fluids will still be being delivered to you intravenously so even if your mouth feels dry you are not dehydrated. One of the main reasons you can’t be given water immediately following surgery is the risk of it making you feel nauseated.

    You Might Feel Cold

A side effect of anesthesia that is seen in many patients is shivering or shaking that leads many patients in their confusion to feel like they are cold, the feeling will pass and don’t worry! Your recovery nurse will ensure that you are kept at a comfortable temperature even if you can’t immediately feel it.

You May Wake Up Feeling Pain or Nausea

It is possible to wake up feeling pain or being nauseated and that is perfectly normal, just know that your recovery nurse will use the correct medications to control both symptoms as safely and effectively as possible.

You Could Feel Like You Need The Restroom

Trying to get to a bathroom immediately following surgery will likely lead to you feeling disorientated, nauseated and could lead to you injuring yourself so don’t panic! If you need the restroom your nurse will have you covered. It’s why bedpans were invented.

Most important is to keep in mind that you are in safe hands and that your recovery nurse will be doing everything possible to make you feel comfortable so trust in what they are telling you to do or not to do!
