Tummy Tuck: Before & After Photos

    Tag Archives: Flat Stomach

The Tummy Tuck is one of the most amazing transformations we see at the Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta. As part of the famed “Mommy Makeover”  the Tummy Tuck combines liposuction, tightening of the abdominal wall, and removal of extra skin leaving a flatter stomach with a smoother, slimmer waistline.

With aging, and especially following childbirth, the abdominal wall and the skin becomes stretched to a point that exercise and healthy lifestyle can not repair. The Tummy Tuck combined with a healthy lifestyle, is the only way to recreate the youthful look of a pre-pregnancy stomach.

The Brazilian Butt Lift has taken the world by storm with some reports suggesting a 16% increase in the number of people undergoing the procedure in 2014! This simple procedure which sees slimming of the stomach, thighs, and lower back through liposuction, and an increase size in the buttocks through fat transfer is fast becoming one of the top procedures in the US.

As you can see in the amazing before and after photo below the results are a smooth, more youthful body shape that is closer to the hourglass silhouette that many patients desire. You can see Dr McCluskey explain the Brazilian Butt Lift step-by-step in a short video you can watch here!

    Exercise Of The Week

Here at the Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta the health and wellbeing of our patients is a priority in everything we do! Besides eating well, exercise and having an active lifestyle is vital to support good health. Each week Dr McCluskey demonstrates a different exercise for everyone to try as well as setting a challenge for the week. This week it’s all about the abdominals-a problem area for many! It is important to remember that abdominal exercises alone will not give any one a flat stomach, eating healthy food and appropriate portions is also vital!

    The Full Extension

This move can take a little while to conquer as it requires stability as well as abdominal strength, but stick with it! Full extensions utilize the entire core giving the upper and lower ab muscles work as well as using the entire core to stabilize. Try performing thirty of these each day for the next week and tell us if you see any improvement! Here’s how to perform one full extension:

    1. Extend both legs and arms long

    2. Reach up and over your head with your arms while simultaneously tucking the knees towards the chest.

    3. Extend both arms out in front of you with knees tucked in to your chest

    4. In a controlled motion extend both the arms and legs and return to your original position.

Watch as Dr McCluskey and our lovely Dani demonstrate this move!

These two very popular procedures have earned themselves fans all over the world and for a good reason! A Tummy Tuck gives a slim, youthful waist that can be so hard to achieve for many especially following pregnancy. A Brazilian Butt Lift adds curves in all the right places while taking away fat from trouble areas. It’s understandable then, that many patients come in wanting to combine the two procedures and achieve hour glass curves in one day ofsurgery, but is it a good idea?

The short answer is: No. While these two procedures together can help to completely transform a woman’s body the recovery for one would inhibit the recovery of the other. Following a Brazilian Butt Lift patients are warned not to sit or lay on their rear for a period of time, which would mean laying on the stomach or standing for long periods of time – two things that would be extremely uncomfortable following a Tummy Tuck.

Not only this but the results will be significantly better if a recovery time is left between them. Dr McCluskey recommends first undergoing the Brazilian Butt Lift and then, after a 6-8 week period, the Tummy Tuck. For two very simple reasons. The first being that it would make no sense to undergo a tummy tuck, then follow with liposuction shortly after, this would mean the best result would not be achieved. Secondly, following the liposuction involved in a Brazilian Butt Lift and the recovery/reduction in swelling in the weeks following, more loose skin will be available to create the most flat, tapered and natural result possible.

Flat tummy, beautifully tapered waist, tight abdominal muscles – these are results that patients enjoy after a tummy tuck.  In one operation the excess fat and skin are removed, the 6-pack muscles are tightened, and the love handles (muffin-tops) are sucked away via liposuction.  Once they heal, tummy tuck patients are eager to show off their new figures & buy new form-fitting clothes.  They’re also very inspired to start exercising to maintain these dramatic results.

What do I tell post-tummy tuck patients about exercise?  I want them walking the evening of surgery.  I don’t want them just lying in bed and I want family members to help them but also to make them walk.  As their body heals and the discomfort improves I want them increasing their activity and within 2-3 weeks after surgery I have no problem with brisk walks, or elliptical machine type exercise (low-impact!).  Within 4-6 weeks the tummy tuck patient may resume her typical workout or exercise activities.

The most common exercise-related questions I get relate to situps or crunches.  When should patients resume situps after a tummy tuck?  Do patients need to do situps after a tummy tuck?  Can abdominal exercises hurt or “mess up” a tummy tuck?

Breast Implants | Breast Augmentation | Atlanta

Here’s my answer:  The patient will see a dramatic difference in her tummy before & after surgery.  The entire torso is flatter & more trim after abdominoplasty.  In the first few weeks after surgery there is not a need to resume situps or crunches after tummy tuck.  Patients may resume these exercises many weeks after surgery without any adverse effects.  After a few months performing abdominal exercise will help support and even improve the tummy tuck results.
