Non-Surgical Lip Enhancement With Dermal Fillers

Non-Surgical Lip Enhancement With Dermal Fillers

    Non-Surgical Lip Enhancement

Lip augmentation procedure is simple and effective in providing smoother and fuller lips. However, there are several myths surrounding the process. There are a few things you should be aware of while considering lip enhancement through dermal filler injectables. Talk to your surgeon about lip augmentation with cosmetic filler injections.

Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides non-surgical lip enhancement with dermal fillers to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

    Lip Filler Injections

Temporary lip enhancement is made possible by hyaluronic acid fillers. Common products used for the procedure include Restylane and Juvederm brand. These dermal filler injectables, depending on the product, can enhance lip shape, boost lip volume, and smooth vertical lines.

Depending on the type of dermal filler you use, the results can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. Other determining factors include patient’s age. Treatments need to be repeated periodically for maintaining results.

Your natural smile can be enhanced by highly trained professionals while making the lips and area around it smoother. Lip augmentation doesn’t look unnatural when performed correctly. In experienced hands, the procedure will help your lips appear natural and appropriate for your face.

Mature patients that are not looking to change the size or shape of their lips can treat vertical lip lines and add structure through dermal filler injections.

Highlights of Lip Filler Injectable Treatment

These are a few other facts you should know about lip enhancement using dermal filler injectables:

    • Treatments don’t take more than 30 minutes.
    • Amount of filler used can be modified as per individual needs.
    • Results are almost immediate.
    • Side effects include temporary bruising, swelling and redness at the treatment site. They are minor in nature and don’t last for more than a few days. You can sleep with an extra pillow for keeping your head elevated if you want to decrease the risk of side effects.
    • Serious complications are rare as long as the treatment is performed at the hands of a qualified treatment provider.
    • Collagen production is stimulated by hyaluronic acid fillers which adds to the benefits.

    Advantages Of Dermal Lip Fillers

These are a few major benefits provided by lip fillers:

    • Your overall appearance will be rejuvenated by fuller lips that increases self-esteem and confidence.
    • Lips attain a naturally fuller appearance because of hyaluronic acid present in the dermal fillers.
    • You can get rid of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging to make your skin appear rested, younger, and rejuvenated.
    • Adverse allergic reactions and effects are seldom experienced by patients opting for hyaluronic acid.
    • You can go slow with the dermal fillers, checking results over time, till you reach an optimal outcome. This is for first-timers and people that are unsure of their appearance.
    • Dermal fillers have an added benefit over lip implants that they are not permanent. You can always try out different new looks till you decide on one that is perfect for you.
    • An exciting advantage of the procedure is the ability to tailor and customize the procedure based on your individual needs.

Laser Skin Resurfacing To Get Rid Of Hyperpigmentation

    Laser Skin Resurfacing

Hyperpigmentation is usually a harmless and quite common condition in which dark patches occur on the skin. This darkening takes place because of an excess of melanin (brown skin coloring pigment) that forms deposits on the skin. Hyperpigmentation can affect the people of any skin type and color.

Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides laser skin resurfacing to reduce hyperpigmentation to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding communities.

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing for Hyperpigmentation?

Laser skin resurfacing is a form of skin care procedure that involves the use of lasers for helping improve the appearance of the skin and reducing hyperpigmentation. Your doctor may select ablative or non-ablative lasers depending on your unique needs. Erbium laser is commonly used for hyperpigmentation and other superficial skin concerns. All types of ablative lasers remove the outermost skin layers.

    Procedure Expectations

The outer layers of the skin are targeted by laser skin resurfacing white it heats the underlying dermis at the same time. The following steps are involved in the procedure:

    • Your skin will be prepared before the procedure starts.
    • A topical anesthetic will be applied by the doctor on the day of the procedure. This is for reducing pain and making your comfortable during the procedure. Your doctor may suggest pain killers or a sedative if a larger skin area is being treated.
    • The skin will be cleansed next for removing excess dirt, oil, and bacteria.
    • The treatment will begin using selected laser which will be moved around the designated area slowly.
    • Finally, the treatment area will be dressed in wraps for protecting the skin.

Treating Dark Skin Tone with Lasers

All skin colors don’t react to laser in the same manner. Doctors make use of Fitzpatrick scale (human skin color classification system) for estimating the skin’s response to UV (ultraviolet) light. There are five basic categories according to the system – 1 has the lightest response while 6 retains the most melanin.

While you can use any laser type on any skin tone, it is important to be mindful. Hyperpigmentation is a very real risk in patients with more pigment. This means you are risking darkness, brown spots, and blotchiness as an undesired side effect.

However, this doesn’t mean that dark skinned people need to shy away from laser therapy. They can practice caution and find a treatment provider that has experience using laser for their particular skin type and who can assess the risks against value addition.

Choose Erbrium Lasers for Darker Skin

As per experts, there is a common misconception in cosmetic enhancement circles, that laser resurfacing is only meant for lighter skin tones. It is true that certain lasers pose a higher risk in darker skin.

However, there are always effective and safe resurfacing options. Erbium laser is a good option for lighter-toned Hispanic, African American, and Asian skin tones. It poses a far less risk of discoloration as compared to other laser skin resurfacing types.

Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and nearby areas for laser skin resurfacing to eliminate or reduce hyperpigmentation on the face.

Laser Skin Resurfacing to Get Rid Of Lines And Wrinkles

    Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing makes use of lasers for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It restores the skin to a smoother and more youthful appearance at the treated sites. Laser technique involves directing short and concentrated pulsating beams of light on irregular skin. The procedure removes the topmost layers of skin in a precise way by vaporizing it.

Laser can remove the outermost layer of the skin called the epidermis while heating the dermis (underlying layer). The procedure successfully promotes the growth of new collagen fibers that results in firmer and smoother skin. Wrinkles and fine lines effectively get diminished in the process.

Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides laser skin resurfacing to remove lines and wrinkles to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

    Erbium Laser Resurfacing

Erbium laser resurfacing helps in removing moderately deep and superficial wrinkles on the skin. It requires the use of local anesthetic to keep the patient comfortable. The laser procedure can be used on the neck, hands, and chest. It causes minimum injury to surrounding tissues.

Erbium laser causes fewer side effects in the form of bruising, swelling, and redness as compared to CO2 lasers. The recovery time is more rapid. Erbium laser resurfacing is the best option for people with darker skin tone.

All types of laser skin resurfacing are performed as an outpatient procedure by using local anesthesia in combination with intravenously or orally administered sedatives. Your treatment provider may treat wrinkles around the mouth, forehead, or eyes individually. They may choose to perform a full-face laser skin resurfacing as well.

    Laser Skin Resurfacing Results

You should be able to see an immediate improvement in the treated skin. Your skin may stay red or pink for a few months following the laser treatment. In general, the skin continues to improve over the next year with results lasting several years.

You will gain new wrinkles because of normal aging, which should be treated with laser resurfacing again. You should apply sunscreen everyday and avoid going out in the sun as much as possible.

    Recovery Following Laser Resurfacing

A nonstick dressing will be applied to the treatment site for 24 hours following laser resurfacing. Moisturizing creams or ointments will be applied next for preventing scab formation. Based on this data, the area will take 5 to 21 days to heal depending on the nature of the condition and laser used.

You should be able to wear makeup for camouflaging the red and pink colored skin that is common after laser skin resurfacing once the areas have healed. Most experts recommend using oil-free makeups. Normally, it takes 2 to 3 months for redness in the laser-treated sites to fade away completely.

You are at a slightly greater risk of healing with hyperpigmentation or darker pigmentation if you have a darker skin tone. You may need to use a bleaching agent following the laser skin resurfacing for bringing your skin color back to normal. Consult your surgeon for this and follow their advice.

Laser Skin Resurfacing Atlanta To Get Rid Of Age Spots

    Laser Skin Resurfacing

Age spots are in the form of small and flat dark areas on the skin. These differ in size and usually appear on areas that are exposed to the sun. This includes arms, face, hands, and shoulders. Age spots are also known as liver spots, sunspots, and solar lentigines.

Age spots are common in adults that are over the age of 50. However, younger people can get them too if they spend a lot of time in the sun. Age spots can affect people of all skin tones, textures, and types. However, they are more common in adults that have a lighter skin tone.

Laser skin resurfacing makes use of a wand-like laser instrument for removing the upper skin layers. This procedure is also called laser peeling since it removes older skin cells for revealing youthful and newer cells. Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides laser skin resurfacing to remove age spots to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding communities.

Choosing Erbium Laser Resurfacing for Age Spots

Erbium laser therapy is the most rapid and effective treatment for removing age spots and other pigmentation that usually includes little to no downtime following the treatment. The procedure heats the underneath skin layers for promoting collagen production. This stimulates the treated skin area to heal in an even and smoother appearance.

Erbium ablative laser is preferred by experienced healthcare professionals for aggressive resurfacing. This is because it has fewer side effects as compared to CO2 lasers. It also has a shorter downtime as per an August 2017 review published in the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapies.

    Are Laser Treatments Painful?

Significant pain is not experienced by most patients when undergoing laser treatments for brown/dark spots and age spots. Each laser pulse, during the procedure, is accompanies by cool air for soothing the treated area. Most people describe the feeling as getting a minor rubber band snap. Patients with lower tolerance for pain may request for a topical anesthetic or a numbing gel to be applied before the procedure.

    Time Taken for Results

You should be able to witness results almost immediately. You may see improvements once the potential side effects subside completely. This includes peeling and redness. However, patients can continue with their daily lives. Full results following the treatment may not show for up to 6 months following the procedure as the skin will continue healing at a cellular level.

    Recovery Time Following the Treatment

Most patients head back to their work activities immediately after age spot laser treatment. You may experience mild swelling or redness in the treated areas. You are encouraged to keep away from direct sunlight following recovery.

    Protecting the Skin

The skin can remain sun sensitive for up to a year following laser skin resurfacing procedure. You should consider wearing an SPF 30 sunscreen or higher for reducing the risk of sun damage and sunburn. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and nearby areas for laser skin resurfacing to eliminate or reduce age spots on the face.

Types of Dermal Fillers And Uses

    Dermal Fillers

There are many different types of dermal fillers. Every dermal filler injectable is uniquely formulated with a specific texture, density, and injection depth. This means that you should use different dermal injections for different areas of concern.

Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides FDA approved facial filler injectable treatments to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

    Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring compound in the skin and is useful for keeping the skin plump and hydrated. Hyaluronic dermal filler injections are soft and gel-like in nature. They offer temporary results that last from 6 to 12 months. HA particles are gradually and naturally absorbed by the body. You won’t feel any discomfort since the hyaluronic acid fillers are infused with a topical numbing agent called lidocaine.

    Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHa) Fillers

Calcium hydroxylapatite or CaHa is another naturally occurring substance in the body. It is majorly found in the bones. These calcium particles when added to dermal fillers are nearly microscopic in size.

They remain suspended in a smooth gel base. These fillers are thicker as compared to hyaluronic acid based fillers. They also last longer as compared to HA dermal fillers. In most patients CaHa filler results will last for up to 12 months or more.

Production of natural collagen is stimulated by calcium hydroxylapatite. This is why it is used for deeper lines and wrinkles. Radiesse is one of the more popular FDA approved CaHa dermal fillers.

    Poly-L-lactic Acid Fillers

Poly-L-lactic acid is a biodegradable and biocompatible synthetic substance. It can be used safely in the body. These fillers work as collagen stimulators since they primarily smooth fine lines. Even though, the dermal filler is absorbed by the skin in a few days, results tend to last for at least 2 years post-treatment. Sculptra Aesthetic is a type of FDA approved dermal filler.

Juvederm Dermal Filler Before And After Photos

    Juvederm Dermal Filler

Juvederm dermal injectable is a noninvasive, predictable and safe treatment for rejuvenating the face. It mitigates the facial signs of aging and can be administered using a tiny injection. The formula addresses fine lines and wrinkles. The injection provider will show Juvederm before and after images during the pre-treatment consultation.

This is to help you get a better understanding of the procedure and to set reasonable expectations. The images can be used for determining the pros and cons as well. Take out the time to look at as many before and after images of Juvederm injectable as possible.

Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides Juvederm facial filler injectable treatment to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding communities.

    Motivation to Take Action

Patients feel more hopeful and positive when their surgeon educates and informs them about innovative procedures, such as Juvederm dermal filler injectables. However, it is possible for patients to be unclear about the kind of improvements and changes that may occur.

Before and after pictures offer more clarity about how a particular procedure can make real improvements to the overall facial appearance. You may feel more motivated and encouraged to take action. Your goal should be to look at as many Juvederm before and after images as possible.

There will be differences in pictures of different patients. This can help you form reasonable expectations about the final effects of treatment. You can increase your chances of achieving satisfying results when you know what a procedure can or cannot do for you.

Inspire to Do what is Possible

It can be difficult to prevent anxiety when you are considering changing the way you look. Your treatment provider will inform and reassure you about the improvements made in other patients. However, pictures speak volumes. Photographic proof helps patients understand the improvement better. It can also open a world of possibilities and help you think more creatively.

Now these images are not on the site, but we know that updating a website takes about as long as watching a 90s Kevin Costner movie. You can still see these images during the consultation. Dr. McCluskey would not be as successful as he is if he was not transparent. Our celebrities and federal politicians can get away without being transparent that’s not the case in most industries and in the elective surgery business.

    Confidence in Treatment Provider’s Skills

You may want to look at visual evidence if you visit the treatment provider’s office for the first time. Juvederm ‘before and after’ images demonstrate the skill level of the treatment provider. This is one of the reasons why treatment experts maintain and create an online portfolio.

Before and after images helps them to present their cosmetic skills and capabilities. Physical transformation or improvement may take place in phases. Many treatment providers use software tools for creating an online gallery for presenting a series of pictures in different improvement stages.

    Sharing Digital Photos

Instagram is a popular photo sharing online platform. Your treatment provider may post Juvederm before and after images on Instagram for informing and educating patients. The pictures will also increase awareness about the procedure.

No plastic surgery clinic wants a patient signing up for a treatment or a procedure unless they have a strong understanding on what to expect. This makes it easier for the clinical team and reduces the chances of their being any surprises after the treatment or procedure. This clinic is successful because they don’t want any patient signing on the dotted line unless they know what to expect.

Instagram Slideshows are an eye-catching way of presenting Juvederm before and after images online. Instagram Stories along with other features work towards informing patients about the dermal filler procedure.

    Juvederm Dermal Filler Cost

Juvederm is an FDA approved dermal filler injection that helps in restoring fullness in depleted facial areas. The end result is a fresh face that both rounder and younger looking. Juvederm is FDA approved for enhancing volume in wrinkled and loose facial areas.

Your treatment provider will offer detailed information regarding the pros and cons of the procedure. They will also explain all associated costs with the procedure to help you come to an informed decision. You should consider your budget and all alternatives before making a decision.

Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides Juvederm facial filler injectable treatment to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

    Cost Comparison

Juvederm is more cost effective as compared to most anti-aging procedures. This is in comparison with ultrasound and RF based facial technologies. The treatment doesn’t take more than 30 minutes and can be completed in a single session. Juvederm contains Lidocaine which removes the need to administer general or local anesthesia.

Juvederm can be administered by your treatment provider in a safe and comfortable setting. This is a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler that is biodegradable in nature. You won’t need to pay for any other specific allergy tests either. Additionally, Juvederm injections don’t require any prescription drugs or other expenses.

    Cost Benefits of Juvederm

Hyaluronic acid concentrations are higher in Juvederm as compared to other similar dermal fillers. This allows for longer lasting results that remain for 12 months or more. Additionally, you don’t need to take any time off work.

    Treatment Extent

Overall cost is calculated by Juvederm treatment providers based on the number of injections used and the overall surface area. There are a few treatment providers that charge on an hourly basis as well. The amount of dermal filler requires will determine the overall costs.

Expenses are higher for larger treatment areas. Multiple sessions and appropriate monitoring may be required by few patients to meet their aesthetic objectives. Juvederm may be recommended with other procedures, like Botox.

    Firm Cross-Linking

Most dermal fillers have hyaluronic acid as a common base. However, the formulation affects the sustainability and longevity of end results. The concept can be understood better with an example of yarn balls.

Yarn balls that are tightly wound take longer to unravel as compared to ones that are loosely wound. This is how Juvederm cross-linkage works. The gel increases overall cost effectiveness by disintegrating slower in the skin.

    Financing and Insurance Options

Juvederm is generally an elective cosmetic procedure, which means the costs won’t be covered by your health insurance provider. However, there is always the option to use financing alternatives to pay for the treatment. You can use a third-party medical care financing loan or a private loan to pay for the treatment.

    Other Important Factors

Manufacturers may offer special rebates during certain months. You can ask the treatment provider for special discounted or package rates if you are planning on getting multiple procedures performed.

What Will I Experience During A Chemical Peel?

    Chemical Peel

Chemical peels work on the epidermis and the dermis. Epidermis is the outer layer of the skin that is visible to the eye. Dermis is right under the epidermis and contains sweat glands, nerve endings, and hair follicles.

Chemical peels are designed to remove a controlled amount of skin cells from the epidermal layer. However, stronger peels may target the deeper dermis layers as well. Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides chemical peel treatments to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding communities.

What to Expect during the Treatment?

The most superficial chemical peel may cause a tingling sensation on the skin. However, the mild discomfort will subside once the peel solution gets neutralized. Deeper peels may need the application of numbing gel. Generally, skins that are accustomed to tolerating acids will tolerate stronger formulations.

Superficial peels may produce slight redness, similar to a mild sunburn. This may last for 3 – 5 days. However, more intense deep and medium peels may cause swelling, blistering, and noticeable redness. Your skin may continue peeling for 7 – 14 days. Deep chemical peels usually need bandages and painkillers for managing discomfort.

The skin becomes photosensitive immediately following a chemical peel. It is necessary that a broad-spectrum sunscreen be used following the treatment. You should minimize sun exposure as well.

    Post-Treatment Experience

The treatment provider will use a cool saline compress for removing any exfoliant on the skin following the chemical peel. They may recommend applying unscented emollient or weak vinegar solution to the face for helping the skin heal following the treatment.

Deep peels can cause peeling and swelling which may take anywhere from 1 – 2 days to weeks to heal. You should not use any face wash or wet the face the first 24 hours. You should not use any makeup either until the skin has healed.

This is what you can expect with different peels:

    Superficial Peels

Superficial peels don’t penetrate the deeper layers of the skin. They don’t carry the same risk of side effects as deep chemical peels. Also, the skin recovers more quickly in case of superficial peels. It may take 1 – 7 days for the skin to heal following superficial peels. You should wear sunscreen at all times during the healing phase.

    Medium-Depth Peels

These peels can take anywhere from 7 to 14 days to heal. They usually cause swelling which is at its worst the first 48 hours of the treatment. Some patients experience blisters as well. Your doctor may prescribe an antiviral medication for 10 to 14 days. You can wear makeup after 5 to 7 days. However, you should avoid sun exposure until the skin heals completely.

Laser Hair Removal For Underarm Hair

    Laser Hair Removal

You may consider armpit laser hair removal if you are looking for a more long-term alternative to waxing your underarm hair or shaving it. Laser treatment works by destroying hair follicles for several weeks. This means that new hair cannot be produced easily, and the results may be fairly long lasting.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides laser hair removal treatment for the underarm hair to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

Advantages of Underarm Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal damages the hair follicles unlike waxing or shaving. This is so that no new hair is produced. This results in fewer and less noticeable hair for a longer duration.

Potential advantages of this procedure are:

    1. Hair that grows lighter in color
    2. Fewer underarm hair
    3. Less coarse texture of hair
    4. Overall slower hair growth

    Duration of Results

You may notice fewer or finer hair following the laser hair removal procedure. Overall, it may take 3 – 4 sessions for achieving the desired results in armpit hair reduction. This is because of individual hair growth.

You must keep in mind that laser hair removal may be marketed as permanent, but you would still require follow-up treatments for maintaining smooth underarms. Majority of patients require maintenance treatment every 6 – 12 months or whenever their hair regrows.

    Permanent Armpit Hair Removal

The following two steps are used in armpit laser hair removal procedure:

    1. The professional will apply a mild anesthetic cream (if needed) after cleaning the treatment area. You would also be given protective eyewear for the rest of the session.
    2. The treatment provider will next place a device containing light beam on the armpit area. The light will heat up the hair follicle and cause damage. This will prevent the follicles from producing new hair as normal. The process can be completed in a few minutes.

The professional may apply spray or cooling gel on the underarms for minimizing pain and other side effects. You should be able to return home the same day of the procedure. The treatment provider may apply cool compress or ice packs on the underarm region if required.

    Best Laser for Underarm Hair

Laser hair removal can be done by various lasers. The most appropriate laser device will be chosen based on the following:

    • Safety and effectiveness
    • Hair thickness
    • Skin color
    • Hair color

It is important to work with a professional with experience in laser hair treatments.

    Laser Hair Removal Mechanism

The Spectrum Diode Laser device is a recent innovation in hair removal and reduction. It emits a laser beam on the skin that disrupts hair growth. Hair cannot regrow since laser damages the hair follicles. The diode laser has an inbuilt cooling system and a laser wavelength of 810nm. This device has become the gold standard for removing hair in patients.

You should be able to see results in a few quick sessions. You may require 5 or more sessions every 6 – 10 weeks for desired results. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and nearby areas for laser hair removal treatment for the underarm hair.
