How Long Do Silicone Breast Implants Last?

How Long Do Silicone Breast Implants Last?

How Long Do Silicone Breast Implants Last? | Marietta Plastic Surgeon | AtlantaMost patients do not realize that breast implants will need to be removed or replaced at least once in their lifetime after undergoing breast augmentation. Although eventual removal or replacement of the implants may seem like a con of the procedure, silicone breast implants typically last 10-20 years. Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides silicone breast implants to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

    Choosing Your Implants

During your initial consultation, you will have a physical examination with your surgeon and discuss your goals to begin deciding which implants are best for you. Some patients choose to bring in photos of their ideal breasts to help the surgeon understand their goals. Depending on the shape of your breasts and your desired size, your surgeon will suggest appropriate implants for you to choose from.

    Silicone Breast Implant Procedure

Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure that requires the use of general anesthesia. Once sedated, your surgeon will create incisions concealed either beneath the natural fold of the breasts, along the arm pit, or around the areola. The implants of your choice are then inserted into the chest, either above or below the muscle. After insertion, the incisions are closed and the procedure is complete.

Can I Go Without Replacing My Implants?

The main reasons to remove or replace silicone implants include:

    • Capsular Contracture: The breasts may naturally form scar tissue around the implants, causing hardening and/or pain in the breasts
    • Rupture or rippling: The implant may rupture or begin to ripple over time
    • Age: Even if capsular contracture, rupture, or rippling do not occur, the breasts will naturally sag over the years and the implants may not look as desirable as they once did, requiring revision surgery.

For your own safety, your breast implants should be removed or replaced if a rupture or capsular contracture occurs. Left untreated, serious health complications can arise. Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides silicone breast augmentation to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

Will my insurance cover a tummy tuck?

Will my insurance cover a tummy tuck? | Atlanta Plastic Surgery | MariettaTummy tuck surgery is a common procedure that individuals may seek out after pregnancy or massive weight loss. Either of these events may leave you with excess skin that may cause discomfort when dressing, or rashes or infections between the folds of skin that can cause pain. When considering how to pay for your tummy tuck surgery, always speak to your surgeon’s office about your insurance, financing options and overall cost. Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides tummy tuck surgery to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

    Procedure

Tummy tuck surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. During surgery, your surgeon will make a long, horizontal incision beneath the abdomen that will be concealed along the bikini line. The abdomen muscles are then tightened and repaired to allow the skin to lay smooth and flat. Any excess skin is then trimmed and removed, and the remaining skin is pulled tight and sutured closed.

    Insurance

Tummy tuck is typically considered an elective, cosmetic procedure that is not covered by insurance. In some cases, your insurance may cover a portion of your tummy tuck procedure if deemed medically necessary – such as excess skin causing you painful rashes and infections. In the case that insurance does cover the removal of excess skin during your tummy tuck, you will still be responsible for the cost of the muscle tightening portion of your procedure.

    Talk to Your Surgeon’s Office

When considering insurance coverage for your procedure, it is important to discuss this with your surgeon’s office. Some offices will not accept insurance, but most practices offer affordable financing options. After your initial consultation and examination, your provider’s office will give you a breakdown of your procedure cost and discuss payment options. Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides tummy tuck surgery to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

Should I Get Tummy Tuck, or Liposuction?

Should I Get Tummy Tuck, or Liposuction? | Atlanta Plastic Surgery Tummy tuck and liposuction are two of the most popular body contouring procedures for individuals looking to lose excess fat. While both of these procedures can yield powerful results, it is important to consider the differences between the two to help determine which is right for you and your goals. During your initial consultation, your surgeon will also perform an examination and discuss your best treatment options. Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides liposuction and tummy tuck to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

    What is a Tummy Tuck?

Tummy tuck surgery is an outpatient surgery that is done under general anesthesia. This procedure involves a long, horizontal incision along the pubic area beneath the abdomen, which allows the surgeon to remove excess fat and skin from the area. During tummy tuck, the abdominal muscles are also repaired and reconstructed. This procedure is more of an intensive surgery than liposuction. Tummy tuck surgery is ideal for patients that have loose, sagging skin due to age, weight loss or pregnancy.

    What is Liposuction?

Similar to tummy tuck surgery, this procedure is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. Liposuction can remove fat from almost anywhere on the body, most commonly the stomach, arms, legs and back. During surgery, a mixture of saline, water and anesthesia is injected into the treatment area and then removed with a thin cannula. Excess fat is reduced, but any excess skin will be untouched. This treatment is ideal for patients looking to reduce small areas of fat that will not leave them with loose, sagging skin.

    Considerations

Tummy tuck surgery and liposuction are body contouring procedures that will reduce excess fat in localized areas. These treatments are not weight loss procedures, and you will need to maintain a healthy diet and exercise to maintain your results from either procedure. With tummy tuck surgery, you should expect to have a longer recovery period. If you are simply looking to reduce small areas of fat from the body, liposuction is a good option. For the removal of excess skin in addition to fat, you should consider tummy tuck surgery. Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides tummy tuck and liposuction to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

Can I get Breast Augmentation without a Lift?

Can I get Breast Augmentation without a Lift? | Atlanta Plastic SurgeryA common question for patients when considering breast augmentation is whether they will also need a breast lift to achieve desired results. This often requires a consultation with your surgeon to accurately determine. Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides breast augmentation and breast lift to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

    Breast Lift Considerations

When a breast implant is inserted into the chest, the skin must be repositioned to cover it. For patients that have loose or sagging breasts, the placement of the implant may not be enough to lift the nipple to the correct position – centered over the implant as much as possible. In this case, a breast lift may be necessary to allow the correct positioning of the breasts to achieve best aesthetic results.

    Procedure

Breast augmentation, with or without lift, is typically performed as an outpatient surgery under general anesthesia. During your procedure, your surgeon will make small incisions in concealed areas, such as under the natural fold of the breast or along the areola, and insert the breast implant into the chest. If you are also opting to have a breast lift, your surgeon will determine which areas of the breasts have excess skin, make the appropriate incisions, and remove that skin. The nipple and areola are then repositioned on the breast and the incisions are closed.

How do I know if I need a lift?

One indication that you may need a breast lift is if your nipple rests beneath the fold beneath your breast. The best way to accurately determine whether you will need a breast lift in addition to your breast implants will be to schedule a consultation with your surgeon and have an examination. Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides breast augmentation and breast lift to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

    What is a non-surgical facelift?

What is a non-surgical facelift? | Marietta Plastic Surgery | Atlanta SurgeonAging, sun exposure, genetics and other factors can cause the face to lose its youthful appearance. Patients looking to rejuvenate their facial features in a non-invasive manner may benefit from a non-surgical facelift. This procedure typically involves a combination of non-surgical treatments and anti-aging injectables to achieve a lifted, firmer appearance of the face. Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides non-surgical facelift to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

    Liquid Facelift

Liquid facelift is a popular non-surgical treatment that uses injectable dermal fillers and neuromodulators such as Botox to reverse the signs of facial aging. Your injector will meticulously target areas of the face that can benefit from treatment, ultimately reducing the appearance of lines, folds, creases and wrinkles while adding facial volume and correcting asymmetries. This treatment is performed in the office, is usually completed within an hour, and results are immediate. Patients may resume their normal activities immediately after, with some swelling and bruising expected to occur and pass within the following days.

    MyEllevate Facial Rejuvenation

MyEllevate is a minimally invasive suturing treatment that offers dramatic results in rejuvenating the face and neck. This treatment is similar to the use of PDO threads, but uses superior suturing material at a deeper level of muscle that offers better, longer-lasting results. MyEllevate is performed in office in usually less than an hour with only a local anesthetic. This treatment offers immediate results with little downtime, swelling or bruising.

    RF Microneedling

RF Microneedling is a popular non-surgical treatment to help produce collagen production and elastin regeneration. RF Microneedling devices use tiny needles that puncture the skin and stimulate the tissue to produce new skin cells. This renewed skin can result in reduced appearance of lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. Patients may notice results after one treatment, but a series of treatments may be recommended to achieve better results. The Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides non-surgical facelift treatments to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

    Saline Implants vs Silicone Implants

Saline Implants vs Silicone Implants | Roswell Plastic Surgery | MariettaPatients considering breast augmentation surgery may not know where to begin. A major decision to be made for your breast augmentation will be whether to use silicone or saline breast implants. During your initial consultation, your surgeon will explain the differences and the pros and cons between the two types of implants to help you make an informed decision. The Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides breast augmentation to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

    Texture and Feel

Both saline and silicone breast implants feel unique, with silicone implants having a more natural feel. Silicone implants are softer and feel more like natural fat in the breasts. Saline implants will appear natural, but are firmer to touch. In the case of an implant rupture, saline implants are safer since the solution can be easily absorbed by the body.

    Appearance

Silicone implants appear more natural, as the implant hangs over the curvature in the same manner that natural breast tissue would. Saline breast implants can appear more round, firm and full.

    Surgical Incisions

Silicone and saline implants are placed in different areas of the chest during breast augmentation surgery, utilizing different incisions. Silicone implants are pre-filled and require a larger incision to be placed in the chest. Saline implants are inserted into the chest and then filled, requiring a smaller incision to  be made.

    Difference in Result Longevity

Although implants are meant to be durable, they still must be replaced or removed after time. Both silicone and saline implants are found to last about the same time.

    Rippling and Rupture

A ruptured breast implant is uncommon, but is possible. When this occurs, the silicone fluid may permeate the body and can cause health complications. Saline implants are safer, as saline solution can be absorbed by the body in the case of a rupture.

Implant rippling can also occur due to capsular contracture or incorrectly sized implants. Rippling can affect the appearance of the skin in some cases, and is an equal risk in both use of saline or silicone implants.

    Xeomin vs Botox

Xeomin vs Botox | Marietta Plastic Surgeon | Roswell Medical SpaBotox and Xeomin are two popular FDA-approved neuromodulator injections for non-surgical wrinkle reduction. Both Botox and Xeomin consist of a wrinkle reducing agent known as botulinum toxin type A, however the two injections have some differences in their use and formulation. The Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides Botox and Xeomin treatments for the correction of wrinkles and fine lines to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

What is the difference between Xeomin and Botox?

Xeomin is different from Botox as it is considered a “naked” neurotoxin. Xeomin does not contain protein additives in its formulation, while Botox does. This purified form of botulinum toxin is meant to help prevent antibody resistance that may occur with injections administered over time. Xeomin may take a day or two longer than Botox to deliver final results, but is still very similar in terms of treatment. Patients can expect to need treatment repeated every three to four months with either injectable, and both are equally effective. Price wise, Xeomin and Botox are also very similar in cost.

Treatment Areas with Botox and Xeomin

Frown Lines: The frown lines between eyebrows, also known as the glabellar lines, can be treated using either Botox or Xeomin.

Forehead lines: Horizontal lines and creases in the forehead can be reduced and smoothed with Botox or Xeomin.

Crow’s feet: Lines from the corners of the eyes can be alleviated using Botox or Xeomin

Chin, Nose, and Neck: Bunny lines around the nose, horizontal lines along the neck, and chin dimpling may be treated using Botox or Xeomin.

    Always See a Trusted Injector

Botox and Xeomin are two treatments that should always be injected by a trusted provider to avoid unwanted side effects or undesirable results. Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides Botox and Xeomin to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

Liposuction Is The Number One Performed Surgery

Liposuction Is The Number One Performed Surgery | Atlanta | RoswellLiposuction is among the more popular body contouring plastic surgery procedures in the United States and the world. It has gained popularity for targeting stubborn pockets of fat in a reasonably safe manner. With that said, it’s crucial to understand that this is a major surgery with potential complications and significant risks.

Responsible surgeons will always explain the pros, cons, and alternative options during the initial consultation. The Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides liposuction to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding communities.

    What is Liposuction?

Liposuction refers to surgical removal of excess fat deposits from the body. It is also known as body contouring, body shaping and lipoplasty. Liposuction is helpful in removing fat from various body areas. While liposuction can be advised in certain medical conditions, it is generally performed for aesthetic reasons.

    Uses and Benefits of Liposuction

Mainly, liposuction is used for improving appearance rather than providing any bodily health benefits. Most people can achieve better or similar results by adopting a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. Furthermore, there are some cases in which stubborn fat pockets cannot be rectified through diet and exercise alone.

This is where liposuction comes in useful. It can treat those fat pockets that are resistant to diet and exercise. Each fat cell increases in volume and size when an individual gains weight. Liposuction works by reducing the number of these fat cells. It’s vital that you discuss the pros and cons of the procedure with your plastic surgeon.

    Target Areas for Liposuction

Liposuction cosmetic surgery results are subtle and natural looking rather than too dramatic. These are a few body areas that are commonly targeted for the treatment:

    • Back
    • Abdomen
    • Buttocks
    • Inner knees
    • Chest
    • Flanks
    • Hips
    • Thighs
    • Neckline
    • Upper arm

Liposuction provides successful results in people with good skin elasticity and tone. You may end up with loose-looking skin if it lacks elasticity.

    Results and Recovery

The results of liposuction will make themselves clear only when inflammation goes down in the treated area. This can take several months. Based on this, the majority of swelling will settle in about 4 weeks. The targeted area may begin appearing less bulky.

You should expect permanent results if you can maintain your weight. The fat distribution may get altered and the results reversed if you gain significant weight following the procedure. In addition, different areas may begin hoarding fat. For instance, if your flanks used to accumulate fat earlier, you may observe that your buttocks have become the new problem.

Liposuction can eliminate or significantly reduce unwanted or stubborn fat deposits in people that have lipoma or another medical disease. The new appearance in your affected body area may lend you increased satisfaction and renewed confidence if you had liposuction performed for cosmetic reasons.

    Maintaining the Results

It’s crucial to realize that the overall effects of the procedure are dependent on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. You should follow a balanced diet and exercise routine. It’s fundamental to be realistic about the results though. Hard working cosmetic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and nearby areas for liposuction fat reduction surgery.

How Long After A Baby Can I Have A Tummy Tuck

How Long After A Baby Can I Have A Tummy Tuck | Roswell Plastic SurgeryMany moms look forward to regaining their pre-pregnancy appearance after having children. They consider scheduling a tummy tuck procedure. You need to understand that your abdominal skin will not go away without surgery after being stretched by pregnancy. This is even if you watch what you eat and exercise regularly. Based on this, it can be difficult to wait, and you may be impatient to know when you can get a tummy tuck procedure.

There are several factors that need to be considered to determine a good time for tummy tuck procedure. This is especially true for mothers with young children at home. The Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by established plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides tummy tuck to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

These are a few things to consider while planning your post-pregnancy tummy tuck:

    Breastfeeding

Hormonal changes as a result of breastfeeding can cause weight fluctuations. It can impact the recovery process. In addition, the medications you would need during and after the surgery can enter the breastmilk and be hazardous to your baby’s health.

You should wait at least 3 months following breastfeeding to give your body enough time to resume its baseline state. This will make the healing process faster and easier. It will also give you enough time to combine tummy tuck with a breast enhancement surgery. Having the two procedures together can create a more comprehensive transformation.

Combining such plastic surgery procedures together is nicknamed mommy makeover and can provide the benefit of having the desired appearance in a single surgery and downtime.

    Stabilized Weight

Typically, pregnancy causes weight gain. Those extra pounds can remain even after the baby is born. Tummy tuck procedure can help in improving the appearance of your abdomen. Based on this, it’s not to be confused with a weight-loss procedure. The treatment offers the most effective results when you are near or at your ideal weight. You should not be expecting any fluctuations.

Laxity of your abdominal skin can be affected by significant future weight loss or gain. This can essentially reverse the results of the tummy tuck procedure. It is best that you wait until your weight has been stable for at least 4 weeks or near your ideal weight goals before getting the procedure.

    Future Pregnancies

Additional pregnancies along with weight fluctuations can stretch the abdominal muscles and skin. This can diminish the results of your tummy tuck procedure. Investment of time and money would be more useful and worthwhile if you can maintain the results for a long time. Based on this, a tummy tuck procedure will not impact your future pregnancies.

Planning a Tummy Tuck Cosmetic Surgery After a Baby

Typically, surgeons recommend waiting 6 to 12 months following the birth of a baby to get tummy tuck performed. This time is required for your weight to stabilize, hormones to rebalance, and your body to heal. You should consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon once you are ready for a tummy tuck.

They will be able to determine the best course of action based on your aesthetic goals. Proven cosmetic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and nearby areas for tummy tuck surgery or abdominoplasty.

How Long After Breast Feeding Can I Have A Breast Augmentation?

Breast Feeding After Breast Augmentation | Atlanta Plastic SurgeryBreastfeeding and pregnancy can take a toll on a woman’s breasts. A significant number of postpartum women are unhappy with their deflated and sagging breasts. They look for ways to regain their pre-pregnancy body as quickly as possible. Furthermore, a lot of women wonder when they can get a breast augmentation procedure performed after pregnancy. Responsible plastic surgeons will ensure you know the right time to get this surgery performed.

The Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta (PSI), led by the accomplished plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey, provides breast implants surgery to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding communities.

Breast Augmentation If You are Still Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is a rewarding experience, and many mothers want to ensure they do what is best for their babies. You should not consider getting a breast augmentation plastic surgery procedure performed if you are nursing. Typically, it is recommended to wait at least 3 – 6 months once you have stopped lactating to get implants. This will allow your breasts to settle in place following the breastfeeding.

The body has a different set of hormones when lactating. You can get a breast augmentation procedure once your breasts have had a chance to regain their shape and the hormones are balanced. The good news is that breast augmentation is a completely safe procedure. It’s highly likely that you would be able to breastfeed if you have additional children in the future.

Breast implants when placed correctly are safe for nursing. Mothers that are considering additional children generally prefer an inframammary incision which is under the breast crease. This prevents any potential interference with milk ducts.

Breast Implants If You Are Not Breastfeeding

You can get breast implants much sooner following your pregnancy if you choose not to breastfeed, whether it as a personal choice or because of medical reasons. Successful and decorated plastic surgeons generally recommend waiting at least 3 months following childbirth for getting implants. This is a two-fold waiting period. Your body will produce breast milk and colostrum even if you don’t nurse.

You need to allow your body time to settle from producing this. It’s recommended that you take some time for recovering from childbirth and pregnancy before undergoing an aesthetic cosmetic surgery procedure.

    Wait for Ideal Weight

The body undergoes multiple changes following childbirth whether you breastfeed or not. You should wait until your body comes to an ideal weight before getting any elective cosmetic surgery performed. You may want to delay getting implants if you are actively losing weight. Any fluctuations in weight may affect the result of the procedure.

By being patient, you can ensure that you get an aesthetically pleasing and balanced figure without the need for any revision surgery. You may pick the wrong breast implant if you are hasty in your decision. You may pick an implant size that is too large and doesn’t look natural if you are still losing weight actively.

It’s recommended to work with a stellar and experienced breast augmentation surgeon for best results. Highly respected cosmetic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and nearby areas for breast implants surgery.
