Neck Lift Surgery Risks and Safety

    Tag Archives: Georgia

Neck Lift Surgery Risks and Safety | Atlanta Plastic Surgery | RoswellA neck lift is one of the safer body contouring procedures performed by a cosmetic surgeon, but it will still have some of the risks that are typically associated with any kind of surgery. During the initial consultation, the surgeon will discuss all the potential risks and side effects in order to make the patient fully aware of all aspects.

The first goal of a dedicated surgeon will be to help the patient make a well-considered decision. Neck lift cosmetic procedure is a personal journey for the patient, and they should choose it only after evaluating the pros and cons. Dr.  Paul McCluskey is an experienced plastic surgeon providing neck lift to patients in Atlanta, GA and in its suburbs.

    Common Risks

In choosing to undergo a neck lift surgery, the patient will have some risk of infection and possible allergic reaction to the anesthesia. Some patients may also experience unfavorable scarring from the neck lift. The cosmetic surgeon will be able to minimize these risks by taking some basic precautionary steps.

Risk of infection during the surgery can be reduced if the neck lift procedure is performed at an operating venue with high standards of hygiene and care. The sterilization of surgical instruments and overall environmental control will make an impact on this risk. After the surgery, the patient should protect the incision areas against submerging in water and not allow any contact with dirt. This will minimize post-surgical infection risk.

The risk of poor reaction to anesthesia can be minimized when the patient is carefully medically evaluated to determine their suitability for general anesthesia. During the neck lift surgery, the anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist will be present to monitor the patient’s condition and control the situation, if any risk arises.

The risk of excessive scarring can be mitigated when the surgeon performs neck lift with a conservative approach and uses advanced surgical techniques. The patient should avoid smoking and follow the surgeon’s instructions to further reduce this risk. Dedicated plastic surgeon Dr. Lin receives patients from Atlanta, GA and nearby areas for neck lift.

    Other Potential Complications

Other possible complications in case of neck lift surgery may include:

    • Hematoma: This involves excess bleeding during the surgery.
    • Seroma: Collection of fluid under the skin, which can be minimized by placing temporary drain tubes.
    • Tightness in the Neck: This may take place when the surgeon has stretched the skin excessively during the procedure.
    • Numbness: Temporary numbness can occur in the incision areas after neck lift, but in rare cases, the numbness may be permanent.
    • Irregularities of the Skin: Mottling or lumpiness in the skin may occur in some cases.
    • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

The patient’s dissatisfaction with the aesthetic outcome of neck lift may occur in a few cases. If the neck reveals asymmetrical results or other issues, the patient may have to undergo a revision procedure. Patients should note that the occurrence of these complications is extremely rare, and the risk can be reduced further by choosing an experienced plastic surgeon.

Neck Lift Recovery | Atlanta Plastic Surgery | Roswell | MariettaRecovery is an crucial part of the neck lift surgery process, and the patient should be prepared to follow the recovery guidelines provided by the cosmetic surgeon. Patients who are committed to the recovery process will achieve safer and more sustainable outcomes, and may be ready to resume their normal routine relatively faster.

During the initial consultation, the surgeon will discuss all aspects of neck lift procedure, including the recovery. Dr. Paul McCluskey is a dedicated plastic surgeon providing neck lift and various other surgical and non-surgical procedures to patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding communities.

    Recovery Process

Patients who want to receive neck lift surgery should be prepared to undergo a post-operative downtime of about one week. The cosmetic surgeon will usually allow the patient to return home the same day after the procedure, but they should preferably have someone to drive them back home and stay overnight for assistance. Movement will be difficult in this initial recovery phase, and soreness and pain in the incision areas can be managed with pain medications prescribed by the surgeon.

The patient should have plenty of rest during the first few days, but short walks at home are encouraged to maintain blood flow. An advance supply of loose-fitting, comfortable clothes that button up the front should be arranged for the first few days. Vigorous activities and exercises should be avoided in the first few weeks, even when the patient has returned to work.

Bruising will mostly subside by the second week after neck lift, but swelling will go away gradually over several weeks or months. In the first few days, the patient should be particularly alert to any signs of pus at the incision sites, persistent pain or fever, and get in touch with the plastic surgeon if there are concerns.

    Temporary Side Effects

Some of the common temporary side effects associated with neck lift surgery include swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Mild scarring is inevitable in any surgical procedure, including neck lift, but scars will fade over time, and can be inconspicuous if the incisions were placed in natural neck creases and other discreet locations.

Bruising, swelling and discomfort are more severe during the first two to three days, but they will begin to subside thereafter. Within two weeks of the procedure, the majority of bruising, swelling and pain will have disappeared, and the patient can notice the aesthetic results of neck lift more clearly.

These side effects may linger for a longer time if neck lift is combined with other surgeries. Dr. McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, GA and nearby areas for neck lift.

    Results

Neck lift results will typically improve with the passage of time, and may continue to improve even after the healing is completed. Most patients will achieve optimal results within six months of the surgery.

Patients who adhere to the surgeon’s post-op care instructions such as refraining from smoking, drinking, and other habits that could hamper recovery are likely to achieve their desired results more quickly. Following the surgery, the tighter and firmer neck skin and a defined jaw line may last for at least five to ten years or more.

Neck Lift Procedure Steps | Roswell Plastic Surgery | MariettaThe neck lift ranks among the most transformative procedures performed by a cosmetic surgeon to create a more youthful and sculpted neck appearance. The procedure involves removal of loose skin from the neck area, and sometimes restructuring of the underlying weak neck muscles.

During the initial consultation, the plastic surgeon will explain various procedure steps involved in neck lift. The surgeon’s first priority is to educate the patient about all aspects of the procedure and help them to make an informed decision. Dr. Paul McCluskey provides neck lift to patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding communities.

    Preparation

The cosmetic surgeon will advise the pre-operative preparatory measures to the patient, which may involve making certain lifestyle adjustments in the weeks preceding the surgery. Smoking, drinking alcohol, excessive sugary and fatty foods, and blood thinning medications, herbal supplements and vitamins will usually have to be avoided for a few weeks.

Instructions for the day of the surgery will be given, and the patient should not eat or drink anything for at least eight hours prior to the surgery. They should shampoo their hair and wear loose, front-button clothing on the morning of the surgery.

    Anesthesia

Depending on the patient’s needs, the surgeon may decide to use general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. If the patient chooses to be completely unconscious during the procedure, the surgeon may suggest general anesthesia. This will require the presence of an anesthesiologist or registered anesthetist nurse during the neck lift surgery.

The patient’s fitness to undergo general anesthesia will be determined beforehand. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, GA and nearby areas for neck lift surgery.

    Incision Placement

With advanced surgical techniques, the surgeon can perform neck lift using very small incisions. The incisions will usually be placed behind the ears and below the chin to keep them discreet. Small incisions will also heal faster and subsequent scarring will be minimal. Location and size of the incisions will depend on the extent of skin and fat removal involved, and whether any additional facial or neck procedure will be performed.

    Surgery

Some patients may only require a simple liposuction to remove stubborn fat deposits from the neck area, while some others may require more dramatic improvement through removal of excess skin and fat as well as tightening of underlying neck muscles. The fat from the neck may be removed through surgical excision in some cases. While tightening slack muscles, sometimes the surgeon may also removal small section of the platysma muscle.

    Closing the Incisions

Once the required work involving the underlying neck tissue and muscle has been completed, the surgeon will re-drape the skin and pull it taut. The incisions will then be closed with removable or absorbable sutures. Any excess skin can be trimmed away at this point as well.

    Additional Procedures

Neck lift is often performed together with other facial procedures such as facelift, eyelid lift, or brow lift. The procedure steps may be slightly altered in such cases to ensure optimal results with a minimally invasive approach.

Neck Lift Candidates | Atlanta Plastic Surgery | Roswell | MariettaPatients who are interested in receiving neck lift procedure should first meet a qualified cosmetic surgeon for a consultation to determine their candidacy. The surgeon will evaluate various aspects, including the patient’s health, neck, and facial profile, and their personal cosmetic goals in order to determine candidacy.

Dr. Paul McCluskey is an experienced plastic surgeon providing neck lift and various other cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. Dr. McCluskey will recommend neck lift to appropriate candidates who can benefit the most from this surgery. He provides neck lift to patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding communities.

    Suitable Candidates

A fabulous candidate for a neck lift will usually be a woman or man in the age group of 40 to 70 years, who is in reasonably solid health to undergo anesthesia and surgery. The candidate would be bothered by one or more of the following cosmetic conditions:

    • Loose, slack neck skin, commonly known as a turkey wattle neck
    • Neck skin damaged by years of sun and wind exposure
    • Excessive fat tissue below the chin, giving the appearance of a double or triple chin
    • Wide jowls due to excess fat tissue or skin under the jaws
    • Prominent folds and wrinkles in the neck skin

    Skin Elasticity

The cosmetic surgeon will assess the skin quality and elasticity in the neck area before determining candidacy. The ideal candidate will be someone whose neck skin still has some degree of elasticity in order to achieve good results. Neck lift will involve a significant amount of stretching, and the neck skin should be elastic enough to be able to withstand that.

The skin should not be too taut or too thin because excess skin will be trimmed away, while the rest is pulled tight and smooth. Therefore, a few younger and older people may not be suitable candidates if skin laxity is an issue in their neck region.

    Other Conditions

The plastic surgeon will help the patient to develop realistic expectations from neck lift surgery. Individuals with a positive frame of mind, clear aesthetic goals and realistic expectations will usually make better candidates for neck lift. They should also be aware of the estimated downtime involved post-operatively, and be prepared to stay away from normal activity and responsibilities at the workplace.

A good candidate will be committed to following the surgeon’s instructions during the pre- and post-operative phases. They would be ready to make full disclosure about smoking, medications, and existing health conditions to help determine their candidacy. Dr. McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, GA and nearby areas for neck lift surgery.

    Flaws Treated with Neck Lift

Candidates who want to reduce the appearance of loose bands of skin and fat that may have accumulated over the years can benefit from neck lift. The procedure can also accentuate the jaw contours and mitigate the ‘jowly’ look. While neck lift is not a weight loss surgery, it can create an impression of reduced weight in the face and neck area. Some candidates may have to combine neck lift with neck liposuction to achieve more desirable results.

Neck Lift Before and After Photos | Atlanta | Roswell Cosmetic SurgeryThe neck lift procedure is performed by a cosmetic surgeon to remove excess skin from the neck area and tighten underlying loose neck muscles in some cases. At the time of pre-op consultation, the surgeon will explain various aspects of neck lift and may also present neck lift before and after photographs for the patient’s review.

The first concern of a dedicated surgeon will be to help the patient make a well-informed decision. Dr. Paul McCluskey is an experienced plastic surgeon providing neck lift and various other surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures to patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding communities.

What are Neck Lift Before and After Pictures?

Before and after pictures in case of neck lift cosmetic surgery refer to a set of images belonging to an earlier patient who has undergone the same procedure with successful results. The set includes pictures taken prior to the surgery and after the surgery at a time when full effects of neck lift have appeared and post-op swelling has been completely resolved.

The cosmetic surgeon will take care to ensure that these photographs are obtained with complete consent of the patient and presented before new patients in an appropriate manner. The patient’s identity may be kept confidential as required. The surgeon’s sole purpose in this exercise is to use these photographs as a visual aid to educate new patients about the potential effectiveness of neck lift surgery.

    Advantages

When a new patient visits the surgeon for a first consultation for neck lift surgery, they may only have a limited understanding of the procedure and whether it can meet their personal cosmetic needs. The patient will naturally have concerns about how their neck and facial profile may change after the surgery. Some patients may need only neck lift, while others may need addition procedures such as neck liposuction or facelift.

In all such situations, the plastic surgeon can better explain the treatment options and help the patient the right choices when they make use of neck lift before and after photos. Dr. McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, GA and nearby areas for neck lift and various other surgical and non-surgical procedures.

    Keeping Realistic Expectations

Best patient satisfaction levels in any cosmetic procedure are usually achieved when the patient has a positive mindset, clear aesthetic priorities and realistic expectations. Therefore, many experienced surgeons prefer to present neck lift before and after photos at the very outset during the first consultation.

The patient will know clearly what the neck lift surgery can or cannot do for them. It will also mitigate the risk of any disappointment occurring at a later stage. Patients are usually able to appreciate and enjoy the results in a better way when they have formed realistic expectations about the procedure.

    Website Photos

The surgeon has the option to provide free online access to new patients pertaining to a neck lift before and after photos by uploading these on their practice website. If the surgeon has a social media presence, they can also share the photos on social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Google+, and Pinterest for wider access to all.

Website pictures are based on digital technology which have changed the world. The plastic surgery community has been elevated because of digital technology but so has just about every other industry across the landscape. Now patients can make decisions based on vivid pictures they can apply to their own bodies and receive almost the full picture (no pun intended) of a neck lift procedure.

Patients no longer have to rely on picture books, so much from the spoken word, or from some brochure that only explains or shows about ten percent of what you wish you knew. Now with website pictures you can see exactly what to expect and have a much better understanding on how this neck lift procedure will look on you. They say a picture speaks a thousand words, what do they say about a digital picture? How many words do digital pictures speak?

How much does a Neck Lift cost? | Roswelll Plastic Surgery | MariettaThe neck lift is an important body contouring procedure performed by a cosmetic surgeon to tighten sagging skin around the neck area and make it appear firmer and more youthful. The procedure is usually considered elective, which means insurance coverage will not be available. Therefore, the monetary amount becomes a significant starting point for people seeking a neck lift.

A dedicated plastic surgeon will discuss all aspects related to neck lift, including its estimated costs during the initial consultation. The surgeon’s first priority will be to help the patient make a well-considered choice. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides neck lift to patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding locations.

    Extent of Surgery

The dollar amount for a neck lift surgery will vary depending on several factors, including the type of surgical technique used and the extent of surgery performed. The cosmetic surgeon will recommend the appropriate technique according to the patient’s unique needs and explain the costs involved.

    Liposuction

If the patient has excess amounts of fat tissue in the neck or below the chin, but the skin in the neck area is fairly elastic, the surgeon may suggest liposuction alone as a procedure to reshape the neck. Liposuction would be relatively less expensive compared to other neck lift techniques. The sticker price for liposuction will vary according to the amount of fat reduced and the liposuction technique.

    Cervicoplasty

This neck lift technique involves removal of loose skin from the neck area. The skin is then re-draped over the neck to create a smooth and taut neck appearance. This procedure will usually cost a little more than liposuction. In some cases, it may be combined with liposuction, which could raise the costs further.

    Platysmaplasty

If the neck muscles are loose or separated, the plastic surgeon may remove a portion of the neck muscle or platysma to produce a refined and more contoured neck. This procedure will typically be combined with cervicoplasty to create comprehensive results. The cost of platysmaplasty will be higher than the other surgical techniques.

In several cases, neck lift procedure may be combined with facelift surgery or another procedure to produce more harmonious outcomes. The overall procedure becomes more cost-effective when two or more surgeries are combined. Dr. McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, GA and nearby areas for neck lift surgery.

    Cost Components

The overall monetary amount for a neck lift will comprise components such as anesthesia costs, fee charged by the plastic surgeon, surgical room costs, and post-operative expenses such as prescription drugs, medical tests, compression garment, and visits to the surgeon’s office.

Each monetary component can vary from one practice to another and even from one patient to another at the same practice. The patient should be aware of all price tag components in order to have a clear cost estimate and plan their finances correctly.

    Financing

Professional medical care financing companies offer specifically designed loans for plastic surgery patients. Payment plans can sometimes be arranged through the surgeon’s office. Most patients will have quick loan approvals and low interest loan offers with flexible payment plans.

Your Rhinoplasty Consultation | Marietta Plastic Surgery | RoswellThe consultation is one of the crucial components in a rhinoplasty procedure, and the cosmetic surgeon will invest a significant amount of time in this phase. The information and understanding assimilated during the consultation will form the basis for the rhinoplasty surgical plan, which will be designed to meet to exceed the patient’s expectations.

A suitable rapport between the surgeon and the patient and free and frank communication are essential elements for a successful pre-operative rhinoplasty consultation. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides rhinoplasty and various other aesthetic procedures to patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding locations.

    Determining Candidacy

During the initial consultation, the cosmetic surgeon will determine whether rhinoplasty is the most appropriate treatment option for the patient and they fit to undergo this surgery. The patient’s medical history will be reviewed, and the surgeon will examine the condition of the nose in the relation to the rest of the face.

Any current health problems, allergies, or other concerns will be discussed and evaluated. The surgeon will also ask the patient to provide a complete list of current medications, vitamins and herbal supplements that they may be taking. Prescription medications may have to be rescheduled in coordination with the physician.

The surgeon will also take into account any history of breathing difficulties or sinus infections. The quality and thickness of nose skin will be evaluated. If the patient is a smoker, the surgeon will instruct them to stop smoking for a certain period of time before the surgery can be scheduled.

    Patient’s Concerns and Goals

The plastic surgeon will encourage the patient to share their concerns, goals and aesthetics aspirations with regard to the shape and size of the nose. The patient should feel free to discuss their innate aesthetic desires, which will help the surgeon to prepare a customized surgical plan to meet those goals as closely as possible.

Some surgeons may encourage patients to review photographs from magazines and websites about the nose and facial appearance of celebrities so that they can explain their aesthetic perspective more clearly to the surgeon. The surgeon may hand over a mirror to the patient to precisely describe their aesthetic concerns about the shape and size of their nose.

The surgeon will examine the outside and inside of the nose, including the nasal bones and the septum. The relationship of the nose with other facial features will also be assessed. Dr. McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, GA and nearby areas for rhinoplasty.

    Developing Expectations

Many surgeons will use the initial consultation as an opportunity to help the patient form realistic expectations from rhinoplasty. At this stage, it is easily possible to prevent any future disappointments or misunderstandings about the procedure. The surgeon will encourage the patient to review as many rhinoplasty before and after photos as possible.

Once the patient knows clear what the procedure can or cannot do for them, they will have more reasonable expectations. This simple exercise at the time of initial consultation can dramatically improve the chances of patient satisfaction and mitigate the risk of any disappointments at a later stage when it is too late to make changes.

Rhinoplasty Risks and Safety Information | Marietta Plastic SugeryWith advancements in surgical techniques and less invasive surgical approaches, rhinoplasty, has become one of the safer procedures performed by a cosmetic surgeon. However, certain risks are inherent to rhinoplasty, just like any other surgery. The patient should be aware of the risks in order to make a well-considered decision.

A committed surgeon will apprise the patient of the potential risks and complications, and address all their concerns and doubts in this regard. The patient should be prepared to follow the surgeon’s pre- and post-surgical instructions to minimize the risk. Dr. Paul McCluskey is an experienced plastic surgeon providing rhinoplasty and various other procedures to patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding locations.

    List of Complications

Patients should ideally choose a well-qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon for rhinoplasty in order to mitigate the risks and complications. The following complications may potentially be associated with rhinoplasty procedure:

    • Occurrence of infection during or after the procedure
    • Adverse reaction to lidocaine or general anesthesia
    • Persistent numbness in the incision areas
    • Problems in nasal breathing
    • Chronic nosebleeds
    • Perforations in the septum
    • Hematoma or fluid buildup under the skin
    • Rupture of blood vessels
    • Conspicuous scarring
    • Asymmetry or other unwanted cosmetic results
    • Need for revision surgery

Dr. McCluskey is a dedicated plastic surgeon receiving patients from Atlanta, GA and nearby areas for rhinoplasty.

    Risk Reduction

The single most important factor that will contribute to the final outcome in rhinoplasty procedure is the surgeon’s skill. A fully trained and experienced surgeon with a strong safety track record and a commitment to maintaining the latest safety protocols will be able to cut down the typical risks such as infection and perforated septum.

An experienced surgeon will create results that maintain a balance between the patient’s fundamental nasal and facial characteristics and their personal aesthetic goals and aspirations. At the same time, the patient should be prepared to adhere to the pre- and post-surgical guidelines of the surgeon, which will help to promote quicker healing and improve patient safety.

The communication between the surgeon and the patient should be adequate and frank throughout the rhinoplasty journey. The patient should be forthcoming about their medical history, the habit of smoking, the current medications, vitamins and herbal supplements, and any other pertinent issues. Correct information will allow the surgeon to plan appropriately for emergencies.

    Risk of Unfavorable Scarring

Scarring risks are fairly low in case of rhinoplasty, but these cannot be ruled out in case of open rhinoplasty. This technique will involve an incision made across the columella, which will leave a small scar. A skilful surgeon will ensure that the scar remains inconspicuous.

If closed rhinoplasty is performed, the risk of external scarring is reduced. In this technique, the surgeon will make the incisions inside the nostrils and perform the procedure from within.

    Risk of Patient Dissatisfaction

In exceptional situations, the patient may be dissatisfied with the final results because of a surgical error, inadequate patient-surgeon communication, or unrealistic expectations on part of the patient. Results typically take about a year to establish fully, and the patient should wait until the final outcome is visible.

Rhinoplasty Surgery Steps | Roswell Plastic Surgery | MariettaA cosmetic surgeon may perform rhinoplasty procedure using various surgical techniques, but the broad procedural steps will usually remain the same in each case. Rhinoplasty may be performed as an open or closed surgery, and may involve cosmetic refinements or functional corrections or both. The surgeon will customize the procedure according to the patient’s unique needs.

At the time of pre-op consultation, the surgeon will explain the steps involved in the procedure to relieve the patient’s anxiety about the surgery. When the patient is fully aware about the procedure, they can be more confident about it and make more appropriate decisions related to the surgery. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Paul McCluskey provides rhinoplasty to patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding locations.

    Initial Consultation

The consultation before the surgery is the first key step in the rhinoplasty procedure. At this stage, the cosmetic surgeon will evaluate the patient’s general health condition and review their medical history. They will also assess the patient’s personal cosmetic goals, examine the nasal anatomy, answer the patient’s questions and concerns, and provide pre- and post-operative instructions.

In some cases, the surgeon may order a few medical tests to determine candidacy or plan the rhinoplasty surgery. Any pre-existing sinus or nasal breathing concerns will be taken into account at this stage. The patient’s nasal skin quality and thickness of the skin will also be assessed.

    Surgical Planning

Based on the inputs collected during the pre-op consultation and the patient’s feedback, the surgeon will create a rhinoplasty plan tailored to meet the patient’s specific needs. The plan will have a careful balance between the patient’s aesthetic requirements and the limitations of their natural facial and nasal anatomy.

The type of rhinoplasty technique to be used will be determined at this stage. The plastic surgeon will finalize the nose changes required, and whether it will be an open or closed surgery. If any additional procedure is necessary for facial balance, it will be determined at this stage in consultation with the patient. Dr. McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, GA and nearby areas for rhinoplasty.

    Surgical Procedure

    Anesthesia

Rhinoplasty may be performed with the patient under light general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. Anesthesia will be performed by anesthesiologist or a registered anesthetist nurse, who may remain present in the surgery room throughout the procedure.

    Surgery

Rhinoplasty surgery may involve addition, removal or modification of nasal tissue as needed. Synthetic implants or cartilage grafts may be used in some cases. Open rhinoplasty will involve lifting the skin off the nasal structure to expose the underlying tissue for modifications. In case of closed rhinoplasty, the incisions will be placed inside the nostril. No external scarring will occur in closed rhinoplasty.

    Closing the Incisions

After the procedure, the surgeon will carefully suture the incisions and cover them with bandages. A splint or nasal packing may be temporarily placed to retain the modified shape of the nose until it firms up naturally. The patient can return home the same day of the surgery. The surgeon will provide post-op recovery instructions, which should be followed carefully for the most promising outcome to come to fruition.

What is a Neck Lift? | Roswell Cosmetic Surgery | Atlanta | MariettaNeck is one of the first areas of the body where the signs of aging will show conspicuously. A cosmetic surgeon may provide neck lift surgery to restore a youthful and attractive appearance of the neck. In some cases, neck lift may be combined with neck liposuction to reduce both sagging skin and excess fat tissue.

Dr. Paul McCluskey is an experienced plastic surgeon providing neck lift and various other surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive neck lift from Dr. McCluskey.

    Aesthetic Benefits

Loose skin, stubborn fat pockets and unsightly neck bands may appear in the neck area due to aging and other factors. A cosmetic surgeon may correct these conditions with a neck lift surgery. If the patient has a ‘jowly’ appearance, it can be mitigated by accentuating the jaw as part of neck lift. The overall facial profile can appear more youthful with this surgery.

Although neck lift can give an impression of weight loss, but patients should recognize the limitations of neck lift and have reasonable expectations. It is only a body contouring procedure, and not a weight loss surgery. When combined with facelift, it is possible to create more dramatic outcomes with neck lift.

    Candidates

Neck lift is usually sought by people in the age group of 35 to 75 years. A candidate for this procedure may have one or more of the following conditions:

    • Sun and wind exposure has damaged the neck skin
    • Fat deposits below the chin give an appearance of double chin
    • Loose skin in the neck gives the impression of a turkey wattle neck
    • A jowly appearance is created due to excess skin or fat below the jaws
    • Skin in the neck area is sagging

    Surgical Procedure

General anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation may be used to perform neck lift surgery. If the neck skin is reasonably elastic, but fat deposits are excessive, the plastic surgeon may only perform neck liposuction. However, where the skin is sagging, the surgeon will excise loose skin and may restructure the underlying neck muscles to provide a significant lift to the neck.

With new surgical techniques, the surgeon can perform a neck lift using very small incisions. The location of the incisions may be under the chin and behind the ears to keep the scarring discreet. Through the incisions, the surgeon will remove excess fat using surgical excision or liposuction. Slack muscles will be repositioned and sometimes a part of the platysma muscle may be removed.

After the underlying neck tissue is tightened and lifted, the surgeon will re-drape the skin and pull it taut. Excess skin will be excised at this point, and the surgeon will close the incisions with sutures. Dr. McCluskey receives patients from Atlanta, GA and nearby areas for neck lift.

    Recovery

Most patients can return to their normal routine or go to work in about a week to 10 days. Until the healing is completed, the patient should preferably wear loose fitting garments that button up the front.
