Blepharoplasty can be performed under local or general anesthesia and can be combined with other procedures if desired. Upper-lid Blepharoplasty is performed by making a subtle incision in the crease of the eyelid to remove excess tissue. Incisions for lower-lid Blepharoplasty are made inside the eyelid leaving no visible scar for the patient. Patients usually experience swelling and bruising during the week following the procedure but will quickly start to see results and their youthful, lifted new look!

Summary of 2014 Plastic Surgery Report

Plastic Surgery | Cosmetic Surgeons | Atlanta | Marietta | Roswell GAWith massive growth in Medical technology, plastic surgery has turned out to be popular in the course of the last decade. Its popularity only continues to grow as more and more people are becoming aware of the benefits of quality plastic surgery by the hands of competent plastic surgeons .

In 2013, the demand for some plastic surgery procedures grew while the demand for some other surgery procedures fell. The same trend continued into the year 2014, while some non-surgical cosmetic procedures also saw surge in popularity. The increasing clamor for ‘look good to feel good’ has driven thousands of Americans to undergo successful cosmetic procedures.

    Highest Charted Procedures

Breast augmentation (Augmentation mammoplasty) had the highest number of patients. About 286,254 patients preferred breast augmentation. It also had the highest number of patients back in 2013 with 290,224 though the number has decreased by 1%. It was only the third highest cosmetic surgery procedure in 2000. The same trend is expected to continue in the year 2015. The increased quality of surgical and treatment procedures are attributed to the popularity of breast augmentation.

Cosmetic surgeons found that nose reshaping (Rhinoplasty) became the second most popular cosmetic surgery procedure with a total of 217,124 patients. It had about 221,053 patients in the year 2013. So there is about 2% decrease in the patients for Rhinoplasty as compared to 2013. The same surgical procedure had about 389,155 patients in 2000, which means that the numbers decreased by 44% in the year 2014.

There has been an increase in the number of liposuction patients for the year 2014. About 210,552 people underwent liposuction treatment. The number has drastically increased in comparison to previous year, where only 199,817 patients underwent liposuction. The number has increased by 5% this year. However, the numbers have dropped by 41% as compared to year 2000.

Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty) had about 206,509 patients during 2014. The number has been decreased in comparison to the previous year when about 215,641 patients underwent the procedure. The number of patients has decreased by 4% in comparison to last year and by 37% in comparison to the year 2000.

In 2014, face lift surgery (Rhytidectomy) had about 128,266 patients and the numbers appear to be slightly decreased from the previous year when there were 133,320 patients. It comes closer to the number of patients in 2000 during which about 133,856 people were treated.

Totally, the year 2014 had about 1,677,478 patients undergoing various cosmetic surgery procedures. The number stays close to the number of patients from previous year, when there were about 1,668,420 patients who underwent cosmetic surgery. The popularity of cosmetic surgery seems to be declined as compared to the year 2000 when there were close to 2 million patients. So, the number of patients undergoing cosmetic surgery has decreased by 12%.

Minimally invasive surgical procedures have been growing in popularity. There were about 13,945,388 people who underwent minimally invasive surgical procedure and it was a growth by 4% from last year and about 154% from the year 2000.

    Types of Breast Implants

Breast Augmentation | Implants | Saline | Silicone | Atlanta GABreast augmentation or breast implants surgery is one of the most sought after aesthetic surgery procedures in the US today. Thousands of implant procedures are performed every year by qualified cosmetic surgeons with successful outcomes. One of the key reasons for the high success rate is the advancement in the quality of breast implants.

Implants have become safer and more natural looking due to superior materials being used. A plastic surgeon will discuss various breast implant options with the patient during the initial consultation process to help her make an informed choice. Dr. Paul McCluskey provides state of the breast augmentation and other procedures to patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding areas.

    Primary Classification

A cosmetic surgeon may offer both saline and silicone breast implant choices, which are the two primary classes of implants available in breast augmentation procedures. The surgeon will discuss various aspects of both types of implants, and help the patient choose the right type of implants to meet her individual aesthetic goals and needs.

    Saline Implants

Saline implants are now also called traditional breast implants, which have the core filled with a saline solution. Breasts can acquire a more uniform shape, firmness and feel with saline implants. The FDA has approved these implants for women above 18 years of age.

The major advantage of saline implants is their high degree of biocompatibility. Even if the implant gets damaged or develops a leak at some point, the saline solution will be natural absorbed in the body, and patient’s health will not be impacted in any way.

    Silicone Implants

Over the years, silicone implants have emerged as the more popular choice for a majority of patients. The aesthetic benefits of silicone implants are very superior. The silicone gel based core of these implants provides higher consistency, and matches the natural breast tissue touch and feel fairly closely.

Silicone implants have been approved by the FDA for women above the age of 21 years. Highly cohesive implant qualities are now available, which are much safer as well as aesthetically superior. Patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding communities have an opportunity to receive breast implant surgery from Dr. McCluskey.

The FDA has approved silicone breast implants for women in the age group of 22 and above. New advanced qualities of silicone implants are very safe due to the highly cohesive nature of the silicone gel. As an experienced plastic surgeon, Dr. Q receives patients from Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and other areas for breast implant surgery.

    Gummy Bear Implants

Gummy Bear implants or form stable implants are one of the latest qualities of implants with a highly cohesive silicone gel core. The form and shape of these implants remains maintained because of the high density of the gel.

These implants are very safe because in the event of implant shell damage, the silicone gel will not leak out to other areas of the body, and will stay in its place. All types of implants are typically available in sizes ranges from 120cc to 960cc. Choices in shapes, profile size, and textures are also available.

    Facelift without Surgery Options

Facelift | Non Surgical | Laser Therapy | Thermage | Atlanta GASigns of aging can show up more conspicuously on the face, which may make a person appear older than their actual age. The proven and most effective procedure available to deal with this condition is facelift cosmetic surgery. However, many people are reluctant to undergo a surgical treatment just for aesthetic purposes, and may seek non-invasive treatment options from the plastic surgeon.

Advancements in laser, ultrasound, injectable and other technologies have led to the emergence of a number of non-surgical treatments to rejuvenate the face. Dr. Paul McCluskey provides such solutions to patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding communities. Some of the key non-surgical facelift options are described as follows.

    Anti-Wrinkle Creams and Lotions

Minor conditions of facial wrinkles and lines can be addressed with over the counter solutions such as anti-wrinkle creams and lotions. Patients who may not be ready for cosmetic surgery may discuss with the surgeon about the most appropriate creams for their skin type. These creams include moisturizing agents to keep the skin hydrated and helping plump up the facial tissue.

    Botox Injections

A plastic surgeon may provide Botox as an effective non-surgical facelift alternative to patients with mild wrinkles and lines on the forehead, between the brows, around the eyes and other areas of the face. Botox treatment has been approved by the FDA, and is widely popular all over the world. Dr. McCluskey offers Botox injectables to suitable candidates in Atlanta, GA and other areas for facial rejuvenation.

    Thermage

Thermage skin tightening system employs the cutting edge radio frequency technology to lift the sagging facial skin. Thermage system targets the depleted and saggy areas of the face with deep and uniform thermal energy that causes stimulation of fresh collagen in the skin. Collagen helps in holding back the skin together and providing longer lasting and natural looking results for the face.

    Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is among the more popular non-surgical skin tightening treatments for the face. It involves the delivery of infrared beams of heat energy to promote less wrinkled and more youthful looking skin. The procedure applies low intensity laser beams in very precise areas to achieve safe and targeted results.

Laser energy is designed to reach the deeper skin layers without any cuts or incision. It promotes collagen production, increases moisturization and oxygenation of the skin, and causes it to firm up. It enhances the face tone and texture, reduces wrinkles and lines, lifts the jaw line, and makes the skin around cheeks and eyebrows smoother.

    Microcurrent Facelift

One of the latest and popular non-surgical treatments to make the facial skin appear younger and healthier is microcurrent facelift. The treatment is also known as bio-ultimate facelift. It makes use of mild electric currents to spur the production of natural collagen in the skin, improve the blood circulation and re-hydrate the facial skin.

Microcurrent facelift solution is designed to rebuild the thinning parts of facial skin, strengthen loose muscles, and fill up wrinkles with tissue regeneration. This non-surgical procedure is highly safe and causes no damage to the top layers of the skin.

    Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction

Tummy Tuck | Abdominoplasty | Liposuction | Plastic Surgery | Atlanta GATummy tuck, clinically known as abdominoplasty, is a procedure performed by a cosmetic surgeon to help a patient achieve flatter, tighter, and firmer tummy. The procedure may also involve the repositioning of the navel to a more appropriate position. Liposuction, on the other hand, is a more targeted procedure that is specifically aimed at reducing excess fat deposits from certain areas of the body, including the abdominal area.

Dr. Paul McCluskey is an experienced plastic surgeon providing both tummy tuck and liposuction procedures to patients as per their needs. During the initial consultation, Dr. McCluskey will discuss various treatment options, and inform their pros and cons in order to help the patient make an informed decision. He receives patients from Atlanta and surrounding areas.

Which procedure is the right one for you?

Both tummy tuck and liposuction have their own suitability, and the cosmetic surgeon is in the best position to decide the more appropriate procedure for a particular patient. Patients with excess fat tissue in lower as well as upper abdominal areas along with sagging skin and weak or separated underlying muscles may be more suited for tummy tuck.

On the other hand, the plastic surgeon may recommend liposuction if the tummy skin is still fairly tight and muscles are intact, but only excess fat deposits in the lower abdomen are a concern. Patients in Atlanta and surrounding communities have an opportunity to receive these procedures from Dr. McCluskey.

Which procedure is more widely performed?

Liposuction surgery is typically a faster surgical procedure as compared to tummy tuck, particularly when it is focused only on fat reduction in the tummy area. This makes liposuction relatively less costly. At the same time, scarring in liposuction will be less conspicuous. These factors may make liposuction a more widely popular and accepted procedure as compared to tummy tuck.

    Recovery Process

Recovery in case of liposuction is relatively faster and less painful as compared to tummy tuck. In many cases where a small problem area is being teated, liposuction may not even involve general anesthesia. Tummy tuck, on the other hand, may require general anesthesia, and about two weeks off from the workplace for proper recovery.

    Who is a Good Candidate?

Candidates who will require tummy tuck surgery will typically be men or women above the age of 40. At this age, excess fat accumulation in the abdominal area may be accompanied by skin laxity and weaker underlying muscles. Women who have gone through multiple pregnancies may also require tummy tuck instead of liposuction. Liposuction is usually recommended in cases where patient has a moderate and stable body weight with relatively elastic skin, but has excess fat pockets without sagging excess skin.

    Combining the Two Surgeries

Tummy tuck will usually be performed in combination with some amount of liposuction in the sides and buttocks in order to produce more harmonious outcomes. However, on the converse side, liposuction may not necessarily be combined with tummy tuck. Liposuction can be performed as a standalone surgery to achieve precise and targeted fat reduction results in specific areas of the tummy.

Blepharoplasty | Eyelid Surgery Before After Photos | Atlanta GAEyelid surgery is a godsend for anyone who has a problem with tired and puffy looking eyes.  For some, this excess skin and fat around the eye can even impair vision. Blepharoplasty performed by a skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Paul McCluskey in Atlanta, GA can significantly improve their quality of life by improving a patient’s view of the world.

Understand the process of a blepharoplasty

If you have opted for Blepharoplasty it helps to get a good understanding of what to expect and realistic results you can look forward to.

The process of an eyelid surgery takes about 45 minutes to 60 minutes on an average, according to data from Dr. Paul McCluskey in Atlanta, GA. He takes out the stitches in 3 to 5 days time and most patients are able to return to work within about 10 days.

Eyelid surgery: Before and after photos

While getting clarity on results you can expect is crucial, it is also important to understand that no two experiences will ever be exactly alike. You can look at photographs of people whose before photos are closest to your own. But factors like gender, ethnicity, age, and environmental factors may all impact how your eyelid surgery turns out. The results are sure to vary a bit from person to person.

What blepharoplasty before and after photos can tell you

What a before and after photo may help you do however, is to understand the skill of the plastic surgeon. Much like a patient testimonial, these will tell you what results of the eyelid surgery were really like.

However, you can never be sure what it was each person really wanted and requested to start with. Also, while some may have done the eyelid surgery for purely aesthetic reasons, some older people may find baggy eyelids interfere with their vision and may have opted for the cosmetic surgery for more functional reasons.

Results from your own eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)

After your eyelid surgery, your plastic surgeon will prescribe a lubricating ointments and may also recommend a cold compress to soothe the area. Dr. Paul McCluskey might use gauze and bandages should he feel the need. Mild bruising and swelling in the days following the surgery is normal.

In a few weeks time, you should start seeing a difference and the results of the Blepharoplasty will become more evident. The incision lines may take a while longer to fade away completely, but the general puffiness you experienced prior to the surgery should have significantly reduced.A nicely defined eyelid will also give you a more youthful appearance in general.

For longer lasting results take care to protect your skin from the elements. Using a good sunscreen helps slow down the effects of aging due to exposure to sunlight. Most important however, is the care you take during the days following the surgery. Be sure to follow your plastic surgeon’s instructions and use the medication prescribed to help your eyelid heal from the Blepharoplasty and ensure a quick recovery.

Breast Lift Surgery | Mastopexy Cost | Atlanta GAIt is hard to put a price on something like breast lift surgery. A very personal choice, a mastopexy is typically something that should be your decision, and yours alone. A good plastic surgeon like Dr. Paul McCluskey in Atlanta, GA can help make the entire process much more comfortable for you and improve the quality of the results you get from this plastic surgery.

Once you have shortlisted your cosmetic surgeon, you will need to come down to discussing the details of your procedure and that all important question of – the costs.

    The cost of mastopexy

Breast lift surgery prices will vary from plastic surgeon to plastic surgeon. The prices in Atlanta, GA may be quite different from San Diego, CA. What is important to consider above all else, is the expertise and experience of your cosmetic surgeon. You would do well to choose a reputed and qualified surgeon, even if you have to fork out more on the procedure, rather than choose a less experienced one who charges less but whose work may be less than perfect, may last for fewer years or worse – leave you scarred. The costs involved – both emotional and monetary – in fixing a botched up job will be far higher.

Check with your plastic surgeon on the estimated costs. You will find that surgeons like Dr. Paul McCluskey are forthcoming with these details, because they want patients to be clear on what to expect. Do remember, besides the cosmetic surgeon’s fees you will need to plan for expenses for the use of the surgical facility, the anesthesia and medicine, any tests that may be needed, consumables and surgical garments used for your breast lift surgery.

    Insurance and breast lift surgery

Breast lifts are elective surgeries, so insurance will not cover the costs. However, do check for installment plans or special payment schemes that your plastic surgeon can work out for you. Patient payment programs and financing options are usually available, so don’t hesitate to ask. Start saving up so that you have a little bit put away in advance. Most patients say they think of it as an investment rather than a cost.

The exception to this rule is in cases where a breast lift surgery is required as part of a larger mastectomy reconstruction. In this case health insurance may cover the expense. Do check with them in advance to be sure.

How long will the effects of your breast lift surgery (mastopexy) last?

Another important thing to consider when weighing the costs involved is the duration for which the effects are likely to last. An experienced and well qualified plastic surgeon can give you a breast lift that could last decades. Unless you undergo further weight loss and gain, the mastopexy should hold for a good number of years. Plastic surgeons like like Dr. Paul McCluskey will usually not just lift the skin but also use their skill to sculpt the surrounding tissue helping improve the longevity of the procedure.

For more information on treatments and procedures offered offered by Atlanta Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Paul McCluskey visit:

Breast Exchange | Plastic Surgeon | Cosmetic Surgeon | Atlanta | GABreast lift surgery can be a big confidence booster and can improve your silhouette if you have drooping or sagging breasts. However, the surgery requires precision and expertise, so take your time and ensure you choose a well qualified cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Paul McCluskey who practises in Atlanta, GA.

Who should get breast lift surgery?

A simple check to see if you may be a candidate for mastopexy, is to try placing a
pencil under your breast. If it doesn’t fall, you could benefit from a breast lift surgery with a qualified plastic surgeon. Ultimately though, this is a very personal decision and you may feel you have an aesthetic need to give your breasts a boost. Discuss your reasons and have a good plastic surgeon review your case to see if this is the right choice for you. Remember, a breast lift doesn’t enlarge your breasts (for that, choose a breast augmentation).

    Breast Lift Incisions

Typically, life changes like pregnancy, motherhood, age and weight gain or loss can cause your breasts to not be as firm and youthful as they once were. The sagging can add unwanted years to your age, and a breast lift can actually help turn back time. You may also consider getting mastopexy if you have an areola that has expanded over time – the procedure helps reduce it.

What to expect in a mastopexy

In the consultation before your breast lift surgery, your plastic surgeon will get your medical history to understand if there is a history of breast cancer, previous surgeries and other factors that could influence the outcome of the surgery. It is important to be completely open about medications you take and your history. The surgeon will then do a physical check and take photographs of your breasts along with detailed measurements. Dr. Paul McCluskey and his team understand the importance of this stage of the process and ensure that every care is taken to ensure a successful breast lift surgery.

During the procedure, your plastic surgeon will put you under general anesthesia or give you an intravenous sedative. Incisions may be made around the areola, around the areola and vertically down, or in both these areas as well as horizontally on the breast crease. The tissue is lifted and the nipple/areola brought back up to a height where they may originally have been in your youth. Excess skin is also removed.

    Recovering from breast lift surgery

Immediately after the surgery, your cosmetic surgeon will dress the incisions and wrap the area with bandages. Besides this you may need to put on a support bra or an elastic bandage to keep swelling down. Your breasts will also need the extra support to heal. Sometimes, some blood or fluid may collect near the incisions and a thin tubing may be inserted in the area to drain this. Your plastic surgeon may prescribe medication and give you special instructions to follow after the surgery. Be sure to always check with him or her if you have any questions. Recovery time varies from person to person, so get an estimate for your case, from your surgeon.

Pick a good plastic surgeon and check their credentials and track record. If you are in the Atlanta, GA area, Dr. Paul McCluskey makes an excellent choice, with his experience and skill. When you know you are in safe hands, that’s half the battle won.

    Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Cost

Blepharoplasty | Eyelid Surgery Cost | Cosmetic Surgeon | Atlanta GAEyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is a procedure performed by a cosmetic surgeon to reduce the aging signs and loose skin around the eyelids. The procedure may be performed on upper or lower eyelids, or both. In some cases, eyelid surgery may also include tightening of underlying muscles.

During the initial consultation, the plastic surgeon will discuss various aspects of the procedure, including its estimated costs in order to help the patient make an informed decision. Dr. Paul McCluskey is an experienced plastic surgeon providing upper and lower blepharoplasty and other procedures to patients in Atlanta, GA and surrounding areas.

    Cost Factors

The cost of eyelid surgery may vary from one practice to another and even from one patient to another at the same practice. Cost variations can occur due to several factors.

    Location of the Practice

The cost of living index will typically differ between two regions, which can impact the average costs of most types of goods and services, including the services provided by a cosmetic surgeon. For instance, the cost of an eyelid surgery procedure in Atlanta, GA may not be the same as the cost in say, Los Angeles, CA.

    Surgeon’s Fee

The plastic surgeon may charge a fee for blepharoplasty depending on their qualifications, experience, and recognition in the field of eyelid surgery. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recommends that patients should choose the right surgeon for the procedure, and factors such as the surgeon’s fee should only secondary to such a choice.

    Anesthesia and Operating Room Costs

Blepharoplasty procedure may be performed using general anesthesia in some cases. The cost of anesthesia will vary according to the fees charged by a particular anesthesiologist. The procedure may be performed at a state of the art surgical facility with experienced staff and personalized service, which may increase the cost somewhat in comparison to an average operating room.

    Complexity of the Procedure

Whether the patient needs blepharoplasty for upper, lower, or both eyelids, whether muscle tightening is involved, and whether any other surgical or non-surgical facial procedures are combined with the surgery, are all factors that will influence the overall cost of eyelid surgery. Additional costs such as prescription medications, lab tests, and other related expenses should also be considered while estimating the overall cost of an eyelid surgery procedure.

    Average Cost

The overall cost of eyelid surgery can vary significantly between two practices or patients, depending on various factors as discussed above. According to the ASPS, the average cost of eyelid surgery in the US was $2,818 in 2013. However, the ASPS clarified that this cost did not include anesthesia costs, operating room expenses, and other related surgical costs. The overall cost may range between $6,000 and $10,000 for eyelid surgery.

Health insurance may not cover the costs, unless the procedure is performed specifically to correct vision scope or other health reasons. Patients should explore different financial options to make the payments in convenient monthly installments spread over a period of time. The surgeon’s office may be able to provide guidance and assistance with regard to insurance and financing.
