Anesthesia and Treatment Experience
This procedure will be undertaken using some type of anesthesia, namely general, local, or twilight sleep anesthesia.
The procedure is usually performed with the patient under local anesthesia. When the local anesthetic is injected, the patient will experience a stinging sensation.
This will freeze or numb the arms. When the arms are numbed, the patient will typically experience little discomfort during the procedure.
But the patient may experience some spots sensitivity. Patients usually report that liposuction with local anesthesia as “not delightful, but tolerable.”
For patients who do not want to feel or remember anything, twilight sleep anesthesia or general anesthesia are suitable options. But these options may cause a groggy feeling from being unconscious, and cost more as well.
Techniques for Arm Liposuction
Liposuction cosmetic surgery only removes excess fat. It does not firm or eliminate sagging or hanging skin. While some patients have sufficient skin elasticity to allow the skin to tighten by itself, others may need an additional procedure such as a tuck, to address hanging skin.
Many patients are now assessing laser liposuction as an alternative to traditional liposuction. Laser liposuction is not generally a “better” or “safer” option in comparison to other liposuction techniques. Laser liposuction will also not tighten sagging skin, similar to traditional liposuction.
Arm liposuction cosmetic surgery can effectively create sleeker, toned arms. But patients must realize that the skills and experience of the operating surgeon is the primary factor in determining the outcomes of the procedure, regardless of the liposuction technique used.

Recovery
The patient will be sent home with aftercare instructions, prescriptions, and a follow-up appointment scheduled after the liposuction procedure. The procedure after-effects include temporary swelling, bruising, and altered sensation including numbness and tingling.
Every patient will experience a different recovery. However, most individuals will be able to return to work after a few days. The bruising will usually resolve in two to four weeks. But the inflammation will take one to two months to subside.
Arm Lift
If the patient has excess skin in the upper arm, the surgeon may recommend an upper arm lift or brachioplasty in addition to liposuction. But this can lead to a long scar down the inside of the arm. The scar will not be noticeable when the arms are down at the sides, but it will be visible when the arm is raised.
