Summary of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Report
ASAPS is an organization which is completely devoted to aesthetic plastic surgeries and cosmetic medicine pertaining to both face and body. It has about 2,600 plastic surgeons as certified active members. All of them have been extensively trained in all areas of plastic surgery.
The 18th annual multi-specialty statistical data was released recently by American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). It shows that the American are spending more than 12 billion dollars altogether on surgical and non-surgical procedures while there was about 10 million cosmetic surgery procedures performed by cosmetic surgeons in the year 2014. Most specifically the buttock augmentation went up by 86%, labiaplasty by 49% and non-surgical fat reduction by 42%. Trends indicate the willingness of men to undergo aesthetic cosmetic procedures.
Top five surgical and non-surgical procedures
Both men and women have undergone cosmetic surgery procedures in the year 2014. Specifically, Liposuction had about 342,494 procedures, Breast Augmentation about 286,694, Eyelid Surgery about 165,714, Tummy Tuck about 164,021and Nose Surgery about 145,909.
Non-surgical procedures record more number of patients than surgical procedures. The top five non-surgical procedures are Botulinum Toxin with 3,588,218 procedures, Hyaluronic Acid with 1,696,621 procedures, Hair Removal about 828,480 procedures, Chemical Peel about 484,053 procedures, and Microdermabrasion about 417,034 procedures.
There are some procedures, which also includes the ones in the top five, which underwent a decline in popularity. Breast augementation was down by 8.5%, ear surgery by 12.3%, injectable by 6.5% and lastly Photorejuvenation underwent a record low of 18.9%.
Increase in number of male patients
Yet, there has been a clear increase in the number of male patients for both surgical and non-surgical procedures. The total number of men undergoing cosmetic procedures has increased by a whopping 43% this year.
The figures recorded from the past five years indicate the growing popularity of cosmetic procedures among males. Blepharoplasty had about 34% increase in procedures, Male Breast Reduction had about 33% increase, and Facelift became a popular procedure with 44% increase.
Nonsurgical procedures have been more popular as well. Procedures like Botulinum Toxin had about 84% increase in the number of male patients, Hyaluronic Acid had about 94%, Nonsurgical Skin Tightening had about 37% increase and the Intense Pulsed Light had about 44% increase.
Ever since the statistical data collection originated in 1997 for aesthetic surgeries, there has been a 273% increase in the number of males undergoing cosmetic procedures. The trend is expected to grow further in the coming years. It revolves around the fact that men, like most women, are also becoming conscious of their physical appearance. It is especially true of men in their middle ages. Various men who are celebrities also have undergone cosmetic surgical procedures to heighten their profile and set an example to the remained of men population who follow them. The quality of surgery, treatment and care offered by cosmetic surgery facilities and certified cosmetic surgeons has been able to build good amount of trust with the people.
