Neck Lift
A neck lift addresses excess skin and fatty tissue beneath the chin. A minimal neck lift, or platysmaplasty may be performed through a small incision under the chin. Through this incision liposuction of the chin is performed and the muscle bands beneath the chin (platysma muscle) are tightened.
A full neck lift includes this chin incision but also requires incisions behind the ears as the neck skin is re-draped to improve & sharpen the profile. Excess skin is removed via these incisions behind the ears which hide in the ear crease and the hairline.
Some patients, particularly younger patients, do not have excessive loose skin and instead have excess fullness below the chin. For these patients chin liposuction is performed to remove excess fat beneath the chin and tighten loose skin in the neck. A less invasive alternative to a facelift, the procedure can produce dramatic results in the patient whose chin and/or neck has sagged with age or after weight loss.
