Combining A Tummy Tuck With A BBL

    Tag Archives: liposuction

These two very popular procedures have earned themselves fans all over the world and for a good reason! A Tummy Tuck gives a slim, youthful waist that can be so hard to achieve for many especially following pregnancy. A Brazilian Butt Lift adds curves in all the right places while taking away fat from trouble areas. It’s understandable then, that many patients come in wanting to combine the two procedures and achieve hour glass curves in one day ofsurgery, but is it a good idea?

Liposuction Surgery Atlanta | Lipo Plastic Surgery | Cosmetic Surgeon

The short answer is: No. While these two procedures together can help to completely transform a woman’s body the recovery for one would inhibit the recovery of the other. Following a Brazilian Butt Lift patients are warned not to sit or lay on their rear for a period of time, which would mean laying on the stomach or standing for long periods of time – two things that would be extremely uncomfortable following a Tummy Tuck.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       tummytuckbrowning

Not only this but the results will be significantly better if a recovery time is left between them. Dr McCluskey recommends first undergoing the Brazilian Butt Lift and then, after a 6-8 week period, the Tummy Tuck. For two very simple reasons. The first being that it would make no sense to undergo a tummy tuck, then follow with liposuction shortly after, this would mean the best result would not be achieved. Secondly, following the liposuction involved in a Brazilian Butt Lift and the recovery/reduction in swelling in the weeks following, more loose skin will be available to create the most flat, tapered and natural result possible.

We all know that there are many, many reasons to stop smoking: the health complications are extensive and the effect on you appearance alone are hugely significant. Smoking also adds a significantly higher risk of complications when it comes to surgery. As a rule I don’t operate on smokers. I try to work with patients that do smoke to set parameters for their safety or to help them to stop smoking completely (if they are interested). If you are a chronic smoker then during your consultation I will explain the risks of smoking with regard to plastic surgery and I’ll ask you to stop smoking one month prior to surgery and one month afterward.  It might sound like a big challenge, but I’m asking you to cease smoking for a period of one month.

    Unknown-3

Even if you follow these instructions to the letter and quit smoking one month before and one month after surgery you are still at risk for many of the complications typical for smokers, naturally it’s always preferable that patients stop smoking completely. One of the many reasons smoking is problematic in regards to surgery is that chemicals found in cigarettes cause blood to clot less easily which can be extremely problematic, . If you are a smoker any issues or questions you may have will be discussed in detail at your consultation so that you can be fully educated and prepared before scheduling surgery.

Liposuction Surgery Atlanta | Lipo Plastic Surgery | Cosmetic SurgeonLiposuction is a procedure performed by a cosmetic surgeon to reduce excess fat deposits from specific parts of the body, and improve the body contour and proportion. The procedure effectively reshapes and reduces such pockets in the body where stubborn fats do not respond to diet or exercise. Dr. Paul McCluskey is an experienced plastic surgeon providing liposuction procedure to his patients in and around Atlanta, GA.

    Areas of Treatment

Liposuction can be performed in various areas of the body that are typically vulnerable to the deposition of excess fat tissue. These localized fat pocket areas may include the following:

    • Thighs
    • Hips and buttocks
    • Abdomen and waist
    • Upper arms
    • Back
    • Inner knee
    • Chest area
    • Cheeks, chin and neck
    • Calves and ankles

Liposuction is one of the unique procedures that can easily be performed along with several other types of procedures performed by a cosmetic surgeon. However, liposuction also has its limitations, and patients should be clear what it can or cannot do for them. It is not a weight reduction procedure, and it is not an effective solution to reduce cellulite. As an experienced plastic surgeon, Dr. McCluskey will explain all aspects of liposuction with his patients in Atlanta, GA during the initial consultation.

    Techniques

The liposuction procedure involves surgical insertion of tiny, slender tubes or cannula through small incisions made discreetly in targeted areas of the body. Excess fat is suctioned out through the cannula as the surgeon moves them underneath the skin to dislodge specific fat deposits. Some of the key techniques to perform liposuction today include the following:

    Tumescent Liposuction

This technique involves the injecting of a significant amount of lidocaine local anesthetic solution into the targeted fatty tissue before the traditional liposuction can be performed. This technique usually helps in the avoidance of general anesthesia during the procedure.

    Ultrasound Liposuction

This innovative technique involves the use of ultrasound energy to liquefy the stubborn fat cells, which makes them easier to dislodge. The surgeon may use this technique to remove unwanted fats from the upper abdominal area, sides, and back.

    Laser Liposuction

Low energy laser beams are aimed at the targeted fat deposits in this technique. The intense laser energy helps liquefy the fat, which is then removed through a tiny cannula. Laser liposuction makes the treatment relatively less invasive compared to traditional techniques.

    Recovery and Results

The length of the recovery in case of liposuction will depend on the type of technique used, the areas of treatment and the patient’s natural ability to heal. The treated areas will be wrapped firmly in elastic bandage to help reduce bruising and swelling. The compression garment may have to be worn for about three to four weeks.

Most people are able to get up and move immediately after the procedure, once the effects of anesthesia or sedation have disappeared. On average, it takes about a week to 10 days before the patient can return to work or perform other light activities normally. Results of liposuction are long lasting, providing the patient maintains an active lifestyle and a balanced and healthy diet.

Many patients who visit us for a consultation are unhappy with the size of their arms, and while general toning or weight loss may help, excess skin can still be an issue. Exercises that target the triceps will particularly help with toning and losing fat associated with the under arm but excess skin and targeted fat loss for this area would require a surgical solution. The procedures involved in this area would include liposuction and possibly an arm lift.

    images

Liposuction in the upper arm can have great results to remove excess fat and can help to shrink the skin. Arm liposuction is a relatively simple procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia or combined with other procedures. In cases where upper arm excess skin is also an issue, the only way to reduce the amount of extra skin is to surgically remove it. This procedure is called an arm lift and there are two types of incisions that can be made depending on the amount of excess skin. The first type involves an incision that will be hidden in the underarm and is suited to sagging of the upper arm that is common with aging. The second type of arm lift is designed for greater amounts of excess skin associated with extreme weight loss and involves an incision from the elbow to the armpit, in this case scarring is usually a concern for patients but the incision usually heals well with the scar fading over time. During recovery it is important to keep arms compressed, but under guidance from Dr McCluskey patients may resume their day-to-day activities and exercise to continue to tone and sculpt the arms with in a matter of weeks!

These procedures allow patients to attain slimmer, more youthful looking arms with a relatively short recovery period and beautiful results!

Slimmer Thighs | Thigh Liposuction | Plastic Surgery Atlanta | RoswellThighs are a long time problem area for many patients of all shapes and sizes. Thighs can be slimmed through exercise, however the inner thigh, particularly the upper inner thigh, is an area that many women carry fat in which can be helped significantly with liposuction. With the excellent results liposuction of this area can produce, slimmer thighs are a realistic expectation. In older patients, excess skin can also be a factor in the thighs looking larger than they really are. In the case of excess skin a thigh lift can be performed to remove any excess skin and further the slimming of the thighs, which is the optimal result for many patients. In younger patients a thigh lift is very rarely required so liposuction is effectively used to create a slimmer inner thigh. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia with a very limited down time before patients can return to their normal activity and exercise routines.

Through Instagram, The Chive and other social media platforms, we have seen the rise of an obsession with the ‘thigh gap’ especially in younger patients. Up until recently many of us were blissfully unaware of thigh gaps and had no idea they were a desirable trait. Many women have long been unhappy with the size of their thighs, but now a frequent question in consultation is  “How do I get a thigh gap?” A thigh gap is a characteristic that is determined solely by your body type, and while slimming the thighs through liposuction or exercise may produce a “gap” it is not something that can be guaranteed through surgery. If a patients goal is simply to slim the thighs then liposuction with a possible thigh lift is sure to meet or even exceed their expectations!

The Brazilian Butt Lift has exploded in popularity recently and for a pretty good reason: curves in all the right places!

The procedure involves liposuction of problem areas like the stomach, lower back and the thighs, then the fat taken from these areas is purified and injected into the butt to give a fuller, rounder derriere. Patients are ecstatic with the results (like those seen below) and are keen to maintain their new flatter waistline and slimmer thighs, but when they go to the gym to maintain or even enhance their amazing new figure how do maintain their post-surgical curves?

Brazilian Butt Lift | Plastic Surgery Institute of Atlanta

In the first weeks after surgery it’s important that patients stay off their butt as much as possible but many can resume exercise in just three to four weeks with their surgeons permission. The best type of exercise to begin with is some low impact and toning exercises like squats, lunges and deadlifts that will help to continue to shape the legs and thighs while lifting the buttocks by tonging the hamstrings. In both lunges and squats it is important to maintain proper form to avoid adding any stress to joints. Important tips to remember are to keep the back straight and to keep the knee behind the toe as shown below.

As the patient continue to heal these low impact workouts can increase to higher intensity by adding the use of weights and cardiovascular exercises that sculpt the legs and abs while increasing the size of the butt muscles to give an even greater result, give the booty a natural boost and improve all around health and fitness!

shutterstock_42670630Your body dramatically changes post-pregnancy, and what was once so flattering, seems far from beautiful all of a sudden. No doubt, the little bundle of joy in your life, makes you feel like every ounce of it was worth it, but what if you could have your cake and eat it too? Mommy makeover has become a popular cosmetic surgery that many moms are opting for, to revive their bodies into the much envied youthful shape.

Mommy makeover – many surgeries tied into one

After pregnancy, your tummy, breasts and thighs, all seem to take to a new shape, and a not so flattering one at that. The mommy makeover procedure aims at correcting these changes to achieve  a desirable shape. Here are common procedures that are conducted as a part of the mommy makeover package:

    • Tummy tuck A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty, helps in getting rid of flab, in a way easier fashion when compared to traditional workouts. The plastic surgeon removes the excess skin in the belly area and tightens the abdomen walls, while in some cases the naval may be repositioned too.
    • Liposuction-During this procedure, the excess fat in the body is sucked out through various techniques. The new-age methods use ultrasound to breakdown the fat, before removing it from the body. This is particularly helpful when dealing with stubborn fat which won’t react to rigorous diet regimes or exercise.
    • Breast augmentation– This surgery involves enhancing breasts that have lost volume post-pregnancy, by placing silicone or saline implants. Although the surgical results are long-lasting, you may have to get them replaced a few years down the line.
    • Breast-lift– Poorly shaped, droopy breasts, can be corrected through a breast-lift surgery. During the procedure, the plastic surgeon removes excess skin and lifts the breast tissue, to make the breasts appear firm. The areolae and nipples are moved as well, and sometimes reduced in size.

How much do mommy makeovers cost?

The costs for mommy makeover procedures vary from one surgeon to the other. The credibility and expertise of the surgeon play major roles in affecting the cost, says Dr. Paul McCluskey, who is a reputed plastic surgeon of Atlanta, GA. Although compromising on a good cosmetic surgeon purely based on the cost concerns, is not the best of ideas. Narrow down on a surgeon who operates in and around your budget, while keeping a tab on the experience too. Another factor that affects the cost is the geographical location of your surgical facility. Adding to this cost, expenses creep in as anesthetician’s fee, post-surgery garments, prescribed medications and lab tests conducted prior to the surgery.

A tummy tuck procedure, which gives you a narrower waistline and a flat belly, has an average cost of $5,350. The average cost of a liposuction procedure is $2,900. A breast augmentation surgery has an average cost of $3,500 to $ 4,000, while a breast lift can cost around $ 4,300. You can always check with your cosmetic surgeon to see if he/she offers financing options. While health insurance claims in these surgeries are rarely heard of, financing plans are quite prominent.

Plastic surgeons and reality television shows popularized the term ‘mommy makeover’. It’s a common Google search term and there are over 3,000 Instagram posts with the hashtag #mommymakeover.

    So what is it?

Put simply a mommy makeover is a cosmetic improvement of the breasts and tummy.  The goal of this combination of procedures is to restore a woman’s pre-baby body, but a mommy makeover also helps rejuvenate women who’ve lost weight.  Typically a mommy makeover combines breast augmentation and tummy tuck with or without liposuction of the waist.  The procedures are designed to lift & rejuvenate the breasts and also to flatten the tummy while removing loose skin and stretch marks.  The liposuction removes excess fat in the love handles, muffin-tops, and bra line (ie “back fat” or “back rolls”).

    tummytuck2

During a mommy makeover I perform more than one procedure while the patient is under anesthesia thus I’m able to save time & money on surgical setup and anesthesia fees & I can pass these savings on to the patient.  Another huge advantage of combining multiple procedures such as breast and tummy rejuvenation is that there is only one recovery period!

    lipoba

1 Liposuction is safe and it can be performed under general or local anesthesia

2 Dr. McCluskey performs tumescent liposuction.  This reduces pain and bruising after surgery.

3 Liposuction reduces fat in troublesome areas like love handles and the “saddlebags” but it is not a weight loss procedure.

4 It takes weeks to months for swelling to completely resolve after liposuction

5 Patients can return to normal activities and exercise within 2-4 weeks after the procedure
